Let’s face it, many Christians are not enjoying the exciting adventurous life depicted for the people of God in the New Testament. Furthermore, the modern church bears little resemblance to the church in the book of Acts. So what’s the problem? In the previous message we saw that double helix running through the DNA of the church is the resurrection and the Holy Spirit and that we need to re-commit to these central strand of our faith. This week we will see that Jesus has given us a “Radical Mission” and that we need to make three important shifts in order to embrace that mission.

In this message, The Central Strand, we will see that like DNA there is a double helix running through the book of Acts which explains what shaped the early church, When we understand the central strand we will see how the church had the impact it did and hopefully understand what the modern church might be missing today.

In this message we take a look at Mary, Joseph, and Jesus having to take refuge from King Herod’s orders, shortly after Jesus’s birth.

We are so familiar with the story that is almost seems common place. The very heart of Christmas is that we are celebrating God’s entrance into our world as a human. God became flesh. That fact is quite surprising. But even more surprising is the way in which he did it. This message will look at the humble circumstances in which Jesus was born and what that means to us.

No matter how hard we try to create the perfect Christmas experience it seems that circumstances get in the way. So why is that and what are we to do with it? Mary is well into her pregnancy and the couple are faced with a challenging journey. Their resources are limited the journey is hard and the baby is coming. Is this any way for the King of Kings to make His entry into the world? Perhaps we can learn something about what’s taxing our Christmas by looking at Joseph and Mary’s experience.

When we gather for our Christmas celebration there is always the threat of strained relationships. In this message we will see that the birth of Jesus was preceded by a rift between Joseph and Mary. Through Joseph’s example we will learn how we too can manage the strain of difficult relationships when we gather for Christmas.
