  • Creating New Habits – Warrior Mind Podcast #628

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to be discussing The Art and Science of Creating New Habits for personal success.

The Art and Science of Creating New Habits

Having a routine is useful in carrying out tasks around the house. From the time you wake up, you should know what task comes first, for example exercise, taking breakfast, getting kids to school and cleaning up.

Work around the house never seems to end. There is so much that is supposed to be done which is why some people hire house help. In the near future, we could probably get robot servants in our homes which would reduce the amount of work. However, until that happens, we should develop some new habits that will minimize the completion of all the work.

Creating and sticking to new habits requires a certain amount of discipline. This will help you maintain and master the habits much easier. Outlined below are some tips that will help you develop and stick to new habits.

    1. Thirty-day commitment

You only need between twenty-one and thirty days to stick to a habit. This is usually the conditioning period. If you are able to go through with it, then you can sustain the habit. Four weeks are enough to commit to changing your routine and get used to the change.

    2. Practice daily

If you want to master a new habit, then you have to carry it out every day. Going for several days without exercising the new habit will make it hard for you to adapt to it. For example, if you want to start working out, you must make a point of going to the gym for the first four weeks continuously.

    3. Start simple

Do not take on too many new habits at a time. You may feel extremely motivated to modify every activity in your life all at once. Start small and then build upon new habits.

    4. Have a reminder

Forgetting your commitment mostly after the first two weeks is easy. Use a reminder phone application where you can record the date and time for every activity. This will help you identify missed activities and work on improving your ability to meet all deadlines.

    5. Be consistent

To effectively stick to a habit, you have to be consistent. Ensure that your new habits take place at the same time of the day and location for the next four weeks.

    6. Have a friend or a coach

Get someone who will encourage you throughout this period. He or she will help you feel motivated when you are ready to quit.

Enjoy this Podcast on The Art and Science of Creating New Habits

More on The Art and Science of Creating New Habits

    7. Have a ritual

It is essential to have a ritual before you execute your habit. For example, if you are trying to quit drinking, you could get a glass of water every time you feel the urge to drink.

    8. Replace old habits

If you are letting go of an old habit, it is advisable to find a replacement habit. This will help you get the same fulfillment you got from the old habit to avoid reverting to it. Instead of watching television, you could take a walk in the park instead.

    9. Do not be frustrated

  • Are You Afraid of Success? – Warrior Mind Podcast #627

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to be discussing are you afraid of success and its effect on your potential.

    Are You Afraid of Success?

The idea that someone can be afraid of success sounds odd to many people. Fear of failure is easier for most people to comprehend, but a fear of success? It sounds preposterous.

After all, who wouldn’t want to be more successful? Perhaps you!

Fear of success is a common obstacle to consistent and lasting success. People are often masters of achieving 90% of a goal, only to throw it all away at the last moment.

Fear of success has multiple components and symptoms. Read on to see if a fear of success is an obstacle for you.

The fear of success has more than one cause:

    * Fear of change. Humans are programmed to avoid change. This is true even if your life is in the pits. Why would this be? Because, even if you’re highly displeased with your life, you’re still surviving.

Your brain is concerned about what might happen if your situation changes. As far as your brain is concerned, alive and miserable is better than possibly happy and dead.Enjoy this Podcast on Are You Afraid of Success?

More on Are You Afraid of Success?

    * Fear of greater responsibility. Success brings more responsibility. In many cases, you have to become more responsible to experience more success. When you’ve become successful, people expect more from you.

    * Starting a business and experiencing success is great, but now you might have employees that rely on you.

    * Building a real estate empire sounds great, but now you have tenants, debt, and complex taxes to deal with.

    * Fear of standing out. Some people love attention, but many do not. People notice when you’re successful, and many will dislike you for it. Jealousy and feelings of mediocrity can bring out the worst in others.

    * There are people that would prefer to just blend into the background than stand in the spotlight. Perhaps you feel this way, too.

Those that fear success show several of the same symptoms:

    * Self-sabotage. Everyone has experienced that before. You’re doing well and making great progress. Then, it seems like the wheels just fall off. You make silly mistakes. You make poor choices. This is easy to see in others but can be challenging to identify in yourself.

    * Changing goals. You get close to achieving success and then suddenly decide to change your mind and do something else instead. If you keep changing direction, you’ll never make any real progress. Choose an appealing goal and stick with it.

    * Procrastination. A sudden lack of motivation is a common sign that you’re afraid of success. Procrastination is a primary killer of progress.

A fear of success can be managed. Try these techniques:

    * Determine the cause. What are you actually afraid of? Determine the cause of your fear, and you’ll have a chance to work around it. You can’t defeat the enemy you can’t see.

    * Notice how that fear changes your thoughts and behavior. What does that fear do to you?

  • Excellence is Never an Accident – Warrior Mind Podcast #626

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to discuss how Excellence is Never an Accident.

    Excellence is Never an Accident

“Excellence is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities.”

The above anonymous quote was displayed prominently in an office, where, oddly enough, it seemed to attract very little attention. In any case, it has made enough of an impression to invite a look at these words of wisdom and see where these words may apply.

When embarking on a road trip, unless a bout of aimless wandering around the country is the intent, it is essential to have a destination in mind and a map. Most people in the world are living someone else’s agenda. Stated differently, most people are on a path of aimless wandering – much like a traveler without specific destination or map.

It would be most valuable to look at different areas or aspects of life and ask, “what is the intention here?” Consider the areas of family, business, spiritual practice, financial means, retirement, education, self-development, health, and social interaction. Most people, by their own admission, are not living fully actualized lives and full potential. One main cause is a lack of clear and focused intention and direction.

Enjoy this Podcast on Excellence is Never an Accident

More on Excellence is Never an Accident

Without clear direction, “sincere effort” is impossible. Perhaps effort becomes sincere when clear intention is established. Most people merely do an adequate job of trying whatever it is they’re doing because they are relatively un-inspired by the task. Sincere effort stems from high intention. It flows naturally. Look at the areas of life where one is just “hanging out” or “clocking time.” This indicates insincere effort – an opportunity to create a more focused and clear intention!

As humans we tend to see in purely linear “cause and effect” terms. “When given lemons, make lemonade” is certainly simplistic, but most people who are successful have had to become adept at taking some perceived challenge and using it as an opportunity for benefit, value and profit. This comes from introspection, the counsel of open minded and visionary people (of which there are few).

Each of these steps, when applied, provides opportunity, challenge, impact and benefit. With these steps in mind, it is a matter of will to trade in mediocrity for excellence!

  • Find Your Passion – Warrior Mind Podcast #625

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to discuss Top 6 Reasons Why You Haven’t Found Your Passion

    Passion

Are you living your life passionately? Life is too short to be slogging along without a sense of passion and purpose in your life. However, that’s exactly the way most of us live our lives. What happened to the exciting and ambitious ideas you had as a child? Are they gone forever?

You’re going to have to work diligently at whatever you choose to do if you want to be successful. It only makes sense to spend that time and effort on something that’s meaningful to you. Can you be more committed to your freedom and happiness than you are to your comfort zone?

Find your passion and experience life to the fullest!

Are these reasons keeping you from discovering your passion?

    * You lack the necessary experience. While a few people choose the course of their lives by the age of six, most of us need more experience to make that determination. You can’t know what it’s like to play the piano, race a car, or write a screenplay until you’ve actually spent some time doing those things.

    * Passion comes from experience. Spend some time doing the things you think you might love to do.

Enjoy this Podcast on Top 6 Reasons Why You Haven’t Found Your Passion

More on Top 6 Reasons Why You Haven’t Found Your Passion

    * You’re too comfortable and have forgotten what you love. Dreams and passion start to die as soon as you take a job primarily for financial stability. You quickly lose sight of what you love to do in the name of comfort and convenience.

    * Spend some time thinking about and experiencing the things you once loved to do. It might spark some new ideas.

    * Avoid being too practical. You’re more capable than you believe. Nearly any passion can be turned into a significant income.

    * Your ideas lack a creative component. People are destined to create something. Whether it’s molding the minds of children in the classroom, designing a skyscraper, or a building a string of dry cleaners, many careers thrive with creativity. No one fantasizes about working in a cubicle.

    * In most cases, your greatest passions and utmost joy will come from something that allows you to be creative.

    * You’re projecting too far into the future. It’s easy to become discouraged if your passion will take a long period of time to achieve. Becoming a rock star or an orthopedic surgeon won’t happen overnight. It’s easy to think that all the steps leading up to a big goal are meaningless.

    * But all of those steps are part of the journey and just as worthwhile. In fact, they’re not just obstacles, but learning opportunities necessary to make your passion a reality.

    * You’re unclear about your values. When your values are crystal clear, it’s much easier to make decisions and plot your course. What’s most important to you? Create a list of your values. You’ll find this exercise is highly useful. It will help to define you as a person.

    * You’re not good at dealing with discomfort. When you think about your passion,

  • The Art of Achievement – Warrior Mind Podcast #624

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to discuss The Art of Achievement to express your human potential.

    The Art of Achievement

Ever wondered how some people have everything that the dream of and for many it just remains a dream? Here are some tips on how to help turn your dreams into reality. Fortunately, it’s not a question of genetics or luck; it’s down to the thinking strategies that we use.

Understanding what is important to us.

If a goal is in line with our values, we get energy and motivation that lead us toward the goal. Most of us have experienced this type of energy and motivation at some time in our lives; maybe Birthdays and Christmas as children and as adults buying a house, getting married or looking forward to a holiday in the sun.

The curious thing is how little we target the use of this behavior towards things that we want in life. It’s because we spend little time working on making our goals fit that we have such a high failure rate at achieving them.

I’m sure you’ve set New Year’s resolutions. How many of those did you achieve? What was different, I wonder, between those that you did achieve and those that you didn’t? I suspect that for those that you did not achieve, beneath the reason for not doing so, the cost in terms of time, money or loss of something else was too high.

If we have a greater understanding of our values, craft our goals in line with them, and address some of the other key areas listed here, we are rewarded with the energy and motivation to make them happen – with ease.

Enjoy this Podcast on The Art of Achievement

More on The Art of Achievement

Optimize the use of our time.

To optimize our time on and towards what we want we must first gain a greater insight into what is important to us, and having done so we must then distinguish between the activities that we do that are important and urgent.

In my experience this is not a regularly practiced technique; too many people are reacting, reacting to activities that are asked of them or are left to the point of being urgent. Examples of this are leaving the utilities bills to the last minute or working under a demanding boss or chaotic organization. Once understood this essential time management technique is easy to master and is commonly taught in time management programs. Understanding it within a great context of achievement makes it that much more relevant to learning and putting into practice.

Start with what you have now, with the end in mind.

Having both established goals that are in line with your and optimized your time, you need to make a start. It’s important that the start is made with the goal in mind and with a degree of realism on the resources that are available now. Delusion is the result of setting off without a realistic view of what the present situation is. And Delusion soon turns to disappointment which in turn turns to frustration and ultimately little or no significant progress.  At the end of the day, we only have 3 resources: Physical and mental energy, time and money. It’s key that we learn how to make optimal use of these resources.

    Meeting challenges.

No amount of planning is going to cater for every eventuality. Many people consider these unplanned events to be proble...

  • 5 Ways to Find Inspiration – Warrior Mind Podcast #623

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to discuss 5 Ways to Find Inspiration to reach your full potential.

    5 Ways to Find Inspiration

Sometimes life is tough and it’s hard to see the pot of gold waiting for you at the end of the rainbow. Fortunately, it’s easier than you think to find a source of inspiration that will motivate you and keep you on the right path toward your goals.

Here are five quick and easy ways to find inspiration:

    * Use motivational quotes and affirmations. It seems that no matter how many times you read or hear your favorite quote, it resonates with you almost as much as the very first time you heard it. Adding to your collection will bring you an ever-flowing well of new inspiration.

    * As your goals change, look for quotes and affirmations that reflect your new path so you can gain the inspiration to persevere in your new direction.

    * Find inspirational imagery. Sometimes you come across inspiration by spotting something in nature, like a beautiful sunset or freshly fallen snow. Other times you may be inspired by a photograph, an image in a book, or a painting at an art gallery.

    * Perhaps the beauty of an image will inspire you to create something beautiful of your own. In the process, you’ll find new excitement and motivation to carry over into the other areas of your life.

    * An image can also remind you of your destination, which will motivate you to work ever more swiftly with laser-like focus to reach your goal.

    * Once you find an image that inspires you, rely upon it during stressful or difficult times as a visual reminder to keep moving forward.

More on 5 Ways to Find Inspiration

    * Confide in strangers. A method you may find surprising as a source of inspiration is to talk to strangers when out and about. There’s an understood confidentiality clause with strangers. Because of the anonymity factor, people may actually become comfortable with someone they may never see again.

    * Someone you meet by chance can bring you a new perspective on old challenges. The next time you’re out, try striking up a friendly conversation and share your thoughts.

    * Let your neighbors inspire you with their stories. When you hear someone’s story of personal triumph or hardship while standing in line at the neighborhood post office or sitting in the waiting room at your local doctor’s office, you just may be able to relate to this person.

    * Because you’re neighbors or friends, it’s as if you have an instant connection. Their story could very well be yours, with a few different details. Seek out their stories and let them inspire you!

    * Watch motivational videos. Websites like YouTube offer a plethora of motivational and inspirational videos. Some videos, such as the late Randy Pausch’s poignant “Last Lecture,” has inadvertently inspired millions, even though it was originally intended for a much more personal audience.

    * People often use YouTube to tell their stories, share successes, and offer advice or encouragement. When facing a challenge,

  • Enhance Your Growth – Warrior Mind Podcast #622

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to discuss 2 Simple Ways to Enhance Your Growth.

2 Simple Ways to Enhance Your Growth

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel less than great. Low, grouchy, fed-up, and bored are all words you could use to describe what I’m like on those days and I’m probably not the best company. The thing is, days like those are part of the deal with being human – it’s not an elective. There will always be off days, and that’s okay.

But what happens when you get a whole string of those off-days, maybe lasting weeks, months or even years? Too many of us say that we’re in a rut, feel stuck, fed-up, or bored and admit that we don’t want things to be that way, but we don’t know what to do to change. That’s the problem, when you’re in a rut, you don’t have the energy or motivation to change things for the better, and it’s tough to find the insight or resources you need to make that jump.

Here are two fun and easy ways you can use right now to climb, or better yet, leap, out of the rut and start to get something better for yourself.

    1. Do Something Differently

Life tends to run smoothly when we establish systems and routines for things, but the problem comes when things run too smoothly and we become blinded to any ideas or choices that sit outside of our routine. All the stuff we do every day becomes the norm, running on auto-pilot, and it becomes our whole world.

Start with making one or two simple changes to your day – be it at breakfast time, your radio station, gym routine, route to work, lunch routine, etc. Don’t worry about what the changes are or whether they’re right or wrong, just make a couple of simple choices that will serve you well.

Doing something differently or changing parts of your routine, instantly takes you out of the norm and allows you to shake off the things that make you feel confined. Step out of your routine and you’ll be in a position where you’re able to make different choices, see things differently and get a different result.

    2. Use your Intuition

Your intuition is a powerful ally, and we all have it even though you might not recognize it. The dictionary says that intuition is:

    * The act or faculty of knowing or sensing without the use of rational processes; immediate cognition.

    * Knowledge gained by the use of this faculty; a perceptive insight.

    * A sense of something not evident or deducible; an impression.

One of the best friends you’ll ever have in life is your intuition, and tuning into it and learning to trust it is something that can have some truly remarkable effects. Accessing your intuition is a bit like working and developing a muscle, but unfortunately it can be harder to locate than a bicep or quadricep, which tend to stay in the same place. Here are some quick tips for accessing and trusting it –

    * Practice maintaining an open-minded, playful, experimental, non-judgmental attitude. This is the most fertile ground to tap into your intuition.

  • Minimalist to Maximalist – Warrior Mind Podcast #621

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to discuss the importance becoming a Minimalist to be a Maximalist to achieve peak performance.

    Minimalist to be a Maximalist.

In order to be a maximalist, you have to become a minimalist.

Decision fatigue: We should realize we have limited energy and devote it only to things that really matter.

    Minimalist/Maximalist Performance Practices:

    * Consider all the decisions you make every day.

    * Identify the ones that are truly unimportant to you (in the long run)

    * Automate as many of these decisions as possible:* Clothing* Meals* Social

    * Time blocking

    * Eliminate gossip, politics, what others think or you, etc.

    * Consider the ripple effect of larger decisions, i.e., commute time, financial pressures, etc.

Your Chronotype: Bear, Wolf, Lion, or Dolphin

The first step in designing your optimal day is to determine what to do (and what NOT to do).  The second thing to determine when do them.

    The Morning Evening Questionnaire:

    * https://chronotype-self-test.info/index.php?sid=61524&newtest=Y

    Munich Chrono Type Questionnaire

    * https://www.thewep.org/documentations/mctq

    Chronotype Performance Practices:

    * Determine your chronotype

    * Design your day accordingly – be very intentional about when you schedule certain activities, aligning the demands of the activity with your energy level.* Time block the time when you’re most energetic and alert for the important and urgent tasks. Schedule the less demanding task for when your energy is at a low.

    * Don’t fight fatigue, use it for recovery.

    * Working with your chronotype not only maximizes performance but also helps to ensure a balance and harmony between stress and rest/recovery.

    * Bear – Sleep: 11pm, wake 7am – Most productive: 10am – 2pm

    * Dolphin – Sleep: varies – Most productive – random

    * Wolf – Sleep: 12am, wake – 8am – Most productive: 10am – 5pm

    * Lion – Sleep: 9pm, wake – 5am – Most productive: 7am – 12pm

    Choose Your Friends Wisely

    * Just like illness spread easily through tight-knit groups, so does motivation.

    * The makeup of your social circle has profound implications for your own behavior and attitude.

    * What is honored in a country will be cultivated there. The same holds true for a team or social group.

    * If we surround ourselves with those who support, motivate, and challenge us, we can reach greater heights than we could have alone.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to discuss the importance of Optimizing Your Rituals for Peak Performance.

Optimizing Your Rituals for Peak Performance

    * Rituals server as tools through which we effectively manage energy in the service of our mission.

    * Rituals create a means by which to translate our values, virtues and priorities into action.

    * All great performers rely on positive rituals to manage their energy and regulate their behaviors.

    * The limitations of conscious will and discipline are rooted in the fact that every demand on our self-control draws on the same limited resources.

    * We can offset our limited will and discipline by building rituals that become automatic as quickly as possible, fueled by our deepest values.

    * The most important role of rituals is to insure effective harmony between energy expenditure and energy renewal.

Enjoy this Podcast on Optimizing Your Rituals for Peak Performance

More on Optimizing Your Rituals for Peak Performance

    * The more exacting the challenge and the greater the pressure, the more rigorous our rituals need to be.

    * Precision and specificity are critical dimensions of building rituals during the thirty-to-sixty-day implementation period.

    * Trying NOT to do something rapidly depletes our limited stores of will and discipline.

    * To make lasting change, we must build serial rituals, focusing on one significant change at a time.

    Ritual Performance Practices:

    * Think about the activities in your life that are the most important to you.

    * Determine what state of mind and/or body they demand.

    * Prime yourself for performance by readying your mind and/or body prior to key activities.

    * Test and refine various priming techniques, eventually developing your personalized and customized rituals.

    * Be consistent: Use the same ritual(s) each and every time you engage in the activity to which it is associated with.

    * Remember the  impact of mood on performance; positivity goes a long way!
