Washed Up Walkons

Conversation on Budmayr starts at about 35 mins into the show

On tonight's show we discuss the shows brief attempt at getting Walkons the restaurant to sponsor the show, and the recent poll we ran on Twitter to help prod at Kevin to take over with more mic time on the show. We discuss the optics of the Kelce/Swift relationship and some of Kelce's sponsors in relation to drawing attention to the NFL and other causes. We break down the Super Bowl, talking about the punt return mishap, Kittle's lack of targets and usage, and the 9ers not running the ball in the second half. Leonhard was hired by the broncos and and some teams odds for '25. Then we mull over the idea of the Super Bowl happening in Vegas every single year. We discuss 5k sub ideas, and guessing Kevin's salary. We then get into the Budmayr hire for the Iowa WR coach position. The immediate negativity surrounding the hire on social media and why people aren't happy.. does a guy need to have played/coached a position to be credible? How easy is it as a football guy to adapt and learn to teach a position at a high level? Was this a lazy hire by simply elevating someone within the program? And does this guy deserve the negativity when he hasn't even gotten a chance to prove himself yet? We finish by touching on the scoring record that Caitlin will break the day this pod releases, and if we would sell our hypothetical floor tickets to this game..

Football talk starts at 19 minutes into the show-

That's where we discuss the media availability of Lester, Wallace, and KF. We talk about the info KF let the public in on relative to the OC hiring process, our thoughts about Tim Lester's first time at the podium and what it was like watching him field questions in contrast to what it's been like with Brian at the podium the last few years. We break down Coach Wallace's comments on his opportunities elsewhere and why he ultimately chose to stay in Iowa City, headlined by his promotion. We also discuss the news that Levar Woods took an interview the Buccaneers and how these guys are real people looking to advance in their careers regardless of how in place they feel at Iowa, AND the dynamic between Coach Woods and Wallace as 2 guys you want to keep around for as long as possible.

Around that football conversation we talk about the first ever Walkon Golf event that is 100% a GO after years of talking about it, some reactions to the Joe Evans episode, The Super Bowl preview, and a whole lot more!

Joe Evans is from Ames, Iowa. He found his way to Iowa City as a Walk On after growing up hoping to one day play for the Black and Gold. He talks about his recruitment, how we ended up playing Quarterback in High School, and what it felt like stepping onto the field for the first practice as a Hawkeye. He also talks about the adversity the team faced over his years in the program, including major obstacles like the pandemic, the Coach Doyle drama, and the Brian Ferentz situation this past season. How did he grow from that as a leader and teammate, and how loud was the outside noise truly. Why they were able to stick together as a team and what led that, and how it felt going back to Ames to play in Jack Trice. Plus, what Matt Campbell said to him, and a whole lot more.

Discussion about the new OC Tim Lester starts 41 minutes in to the show.

On tonight's episode we quickly grab Kevin's choices on Top 5 sports movies, a continued conversation from our previous episode with Mike Schulte. We then open with some discussion on if there was a moment we finally felt like we had "left the jersey in a better place" within the Iowa program, and have some fun rehashing our last day in the facility. We brush over Caitlin and company at Northwestern and her quest for the most points all time, and then move on to Drake. Kluver dug deeper into Drake's thoughts about Beth Goetz and the OC Drama from back in the middle of the season, and shares a clip from this week's DHT where Drake expanded on what Beth 'should have' done. We move to the recap of NFL football games from the weekend, talk about the Chiefs turning into the villains, and question whether or not Taylor and Travis's relationship is real.. We cap the night with our discussion about the Hawkeye's hiring of Tim Lester as their new Offensive Coordinator.

Mike is an incredible guy with a lot going on in his life. For the last 16 years he has been the drummer for the popular Iowa born cover band Pork Tornadoes. They do dozens of shows every year as a full time band where they have found their niche of putting their own twists on classic songs. When the pandemic happened, the band wasn't playing as many events and that was the genesis of The Confused Breakfast Podcast. A show where they review movies and go in depth on their nostalgic memories of seeing classic films for the first time. Both the band and podcast are extremely successful. Oh yea, he just happens to be a huge Hawkeye fan as well. We talk about everything above, his first time in Kinnick stadium, his years in college at UI, and give our Top 5 Best Sports Movie lists.

The boys discuss an unreal weekend of NFL football that featured over a dozen Hawks in action. We ponder over the magical rookie season for Laporta and Campbell in Detroit. Drake's instagram story made its way to Hawkeye Twitter over the weekend, as we give our thoughts on Beth Goetz being made the Official AD for Iowa, why she shouldn't be awarded or faulted for the Brian Ferentz ordeal, and why Drake thinks people in power are crooked. Proctor made it official over the weekend as well that he will transfer from Alabama to Iowa, a huge get for the Iowa O-line room, who looks to be an extremely experienced this fall. We talk about his size, and how he can help right away. We finish with some Caitlin Clark/Iowa Women discussion as they were upset on the road by a talented Ohio St team.

Proctor conversation starts 40 mins into the show

2 huge topics of discussion on today's show are the coaching staff promotion of Seth Wallace, and the Kaydn Proctor's entry into the transfer portal. Phil Parker also got a massive raise, how much does he actually deserve? Was the extended bump to make way for the expected hefty OC Salary? And why hasn't Phil taken a head job, staying put in Iowa City this whole time? What qualifies Seth Wallace for a head position? Is this title promotion indication that he is next in line? How long can we keep him around? and more.. Kadyn Proctor is up for grabs in the portal, are the experts crystal ball picks correct that he will be a Hawkeye? How much could he help this Hawkeye squad? And some discussion on why Tyler Barnes is elite at his job.
