First things first, RIP Chadwick Boseman. We get it into his impact on the film industry, his impact on us, and the gut wrench that comes with a passing like this. We also go into the iconic Marvel movie, Black Panther. The first black MCU film ever, along with Marvel’s first show of diversity and representation. Black director and a Black cast, Black Panther really broke boundaries with not only having an all Black MCU film, but diverting the typical Marvel tropes, along with a moving and relevant story that comes with commentary about current social issues. We also go into our favorite parts and the importance of representation in popular media. *Disclaimer: our audio must have felt the emotional sadness of this episode with us because some parts of the audio have technical difficulties.*
On a new episode of Watch With Friends we talk about the new film She Dies Tomorrow, which is now available on VOD platforms. We sectioned off this episode into non-spoiler and spoiler parts. In the non-spoiler parts we talk about our first hand opinions on the film and we dive deep into some questions about DEATH. What would you do if you had the knowledge of when you were going to die? Would you want to know in the first place? Among other curious questions. The second half we dive deep into the movie, how we reacted to certain parts of the film, and the directors true meaning when she was creating this film. Come hangout and listen to what WWS and our friends had to say about this film!
The conclusion of the Scream franchise (for now) with Scream 4. 11 years after the release of Scream 3, Scream 4 was released in the height of some of the best horror films, a movie that was dead for a decade, Scream 4 restarts the franchise and to much of (our) acclaim. Scream 4 is a great example that old dogs can learn new tricks. The film's ability to embrace and adapt the modernity of best selling horror films, but not losing its identity is something that should be respected. We also dive into the future of the franchise with the upcoming 5th film, what we think is going to happen and what we want to happen. Come and hangout as we talk about Josh's favorite Scream film.
On today's full episode, we talk about one of Quentin Tarantino's iconic films; Django Unchained. We talk about our favorite parts of the film, how good the acting was, and the western style that Tarantino brings to the film. Along with that we dive into the controversy that a lot of Tarantino films have; blaxploitation, the hints of racism, and the white savior trope. Django was really close to being a black centralized western.
On a long overdue Quick Take, we spend most of the time talking about how we've been doing lately in the midst of the BLM movement, pandemic, and many other obstacles. We talk about the fatigue we feel as designers and how to be productive at a time like this. Along with that we update each other on our current living space, current working situation, and how to power through the sluggishness of being inside all day. Come hangout, listen, and unwind!
On today's episode we talk about the new Hulu original film; Palm Springs. Just a warning this is a spoiler filled episode, so proceed with caution. Contrary to most stream original films, Palm Springs really breaks that mediocre barrier with creating a comedic, interesting, and fun movie. Come hang out and listen to us as we talk about this new rom-com film.
With one of the first if not only black antagonist in a scary movie, Candyman is a unique story-telling experience with an exceptional performance from Tony Todd. With Jordan Peele's upcoming production being a remake or sequel to this film, Candyman shows a story of "mythical" beings, gentrification, and never forgetting your past. Watch this unique film if you haven't already and be careful of the BEEEESSSS.
On rare occasions here at Watch With Sound we have movies that really stick with use and amaze us, on today's episode we talk about that movie and that movie is Coherence. Officially stamped as a WWS Approved film, Coherence is a low-budget, under the radar, diamond in the rough sci-fi film. Coherence has a unique premise, along with a major pay off, you'll be shocked with this movie. DON'T look anything up, just watch the film on a pure watch, trust us, you won't regret it.
On today's episode we cover Jordan Peele's sophomore film, Us. A film chock-full of symbolism, Easter Eggs, and underlying commentary. We talk about the meaning of "Us", different fan theories, and why we had a feeling of emptiness after the film. Come and listen to us as we re-watch, revisit, and dive back into the complex film that is Us.
