Wildly imaginative and totally unique, this film forced us to confront issues ranging from nihilism to family and acceptance, and we could not have been more grateful. Nothing could have prepared us for this beautiful, emotional roller coaster. Everything, Everywhere, All at Once kept us laughing through our tears, and we may or may not still be crying now. Would we really be Watch With Sound if Josh and Carmela weren’t talking about A24 at least once a month? This week, we get into Ti West’s ambitious new slasher, X. A loving tribute to the horror movies of yore (the 70s, obviously), we never knew where this story was going and it was a blast the whole time. Starring Mia Goth, Kid Cudi, Brittany Snow, and our Scream Queen, Jenna Ortega, we were stoked to discuss this one so pull up a chair and let us know what you think!

Quick Takes seem to have turned into a quarterly thing around here as it’s been three months (again) since Josh and Carmela last took a step back to chill out and catch up. A lot has happened: Carmela joined a gym, Josh recounts podcast-related bullying, and they both have an age-related existential crisis. There may even be a controversial take or two about the Oscars, so make sure you listen in and let us know what you think! Who do you think will take home Best Picture?

Benedict Cumberbatch is back and he must really have a thing for fatherless kids named Peter, as that seems to be at the core of his latest film, The Power of the Dog. Recorded before some very… interesting comments by director Jane Campion at the Critics Choice Awards, Carmela and Josh were already a bit skeptical about the impact of this western drama, but we likely won’t be rewatching it any time soon. Is the award buzz deserved or is it merely the product of Netflix’s marketing budget? Let us know what you think!

This week, Josh and Carmela get into the latest iteration of the DC hero: The Batman. Special guest, Schae (@bonbon_zon), adds plenty of insight into the franchise’s cinematic history while we discuss what we liked, what we didn’t, and how our favorite Batman films hold up in comparison. We will never turn down an opportunity to talk about Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, and this film gave us the gift of packaging them both together in this angsty, neo-noir, crime drama. Guillermo del Toro’s latest thriller: Nightmare Alley. Sitting at a whopping 140 minutes, this exploration of the neo-noir genre earned GDT his second best picture nomination, but is it deserved? Carmela and Josh get into what they liked, what they would change, and the tropes that make them love noir in the first place. Let us know what you think!

Finally, this week we’re talking about the newest installment of our favorite horror franchise: Scream. A true love letter to Wes Craven and the saga he built, we gush over the legacy characters, the pop-culture references, and Carmela has some very specific ideas about how to fix every problem the film had. Mindy Meeks-Martin’s character said it best: These movies are “meta slasher whodunits,” and directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett did not disappoint. I know you’ve been waiting for this one so make sure you don’t miss it!

Join us this week as Josh and Carmela critique the new Netflix original stop motion anthology: The House. It’s a fun psychological discussion about the themes of greed, learning to let go, and the dangers of trying to be something you’re not.
