Josh and Carmela are really showing their genius this week as they get into Joel Coen’s take on a classic: The Tragedy of Macbeth. Although the Old English was a hurdle, our love for A24 doesn’t waver as we talk about the poetic style of it, the cinematography, and whether or not anything is added by readapting a 400 year-old work. We also get really into the evolution of the English language, for some reason. Do we dare challenge Ol’ William Shakespeare to a rewrite?
After a short break, WWS is back this week with the immersive roller coaster that was Spencer. Definitely not a traditional biopic, Kristen Stewart really took us on a journey through the eyes and mind of the People’s Princess. As always, we discussed what we liked, what we didn’t, the cultural impact of Princess Diana, and Josh definitely does not threaten the royal family. Listen in if you don’t believe me.
Strap in, fellas: Josh and Carmela have opposing takes twice in a row! This week, we tackle the Netflix blockbuster, “Don’t Look Up”. We talk about what we liked, what we didn’t, and what we would do if we knew we were in our final days. So, was it a fun satirical comedy or was it so close to home that it felt out of touch? Listen up and let us know what you think!
With the latest Paul Thomas Anderson release also comes our latest installment of “Josh and Carmela have opposing views!” Licorice Pizza chronicles the adventures of 25 year-old Alana Kane and 15 year-old Gary Valentine while they quite literally run around the 1970’s San Fernando Valley. Listen in while we talk about Paul Thomas Anderson, age gaps in films, and learning to be critical of the things we love
The Matrix is BACK with a new installment: The Matrix: Resurrections. We ~boot~ back into The Matrix with Neo, Trinity, and Neil Patrick Harris?? Come hang out while we talk about its messy reboot, the crutch of the original trilogy, and our experience with Wachowski films. The choice to listen is an illusion, you know what you have to do.
With one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Spider-Man:No Way Home is Marvel’s newest addition to the Spider-Verse. Now that the world knows his identity, what does this mean for Peter Parker? We get into what we liked, what we didn’t, and things we couldn’t quite fit into either side. Come hang out and chat with us.
It’s been 3 months since our last Quick Take, but we’re back with it! We caught up on our lives since the last Quick Take and we had a lot to catch up on! We also dive into our favorite films of this year, why we picked these films, future movies, and episodes, come by and hangout!
One of A24’s newest films; C’mon C’mon is an emotional rollercoaster ride that reminds you of what it’s like learning life lessons as a child. We dive deep into the beautifully emotional movie, how we felt throughout the film, and how we processed these life lessons as a kid.
On today’s episode we talk about the Palme d’Or festival winner; Titane. Known for gruesome body horror, Julia Ducournau is back at what she does best and this time it won her an award. We unpack the film, which helped us get to our overall feelings towards the film, how a horror film won the Palme d’Or, and how this film really isn’t for everyone (for good reason too.)
On today’s episode we talk about Wes Anderson’s newest film; The French Dispatch. Possibly our favorite Wes Anderson film, The French Dispatch is a Wes Anderson ride that feels familiar, but feels unique. We get into how Wes Anderson hones in on his weakest point in filmmaking, his writing, but how it became his strongest suit in The French Dispatch. We also go into Wes Anderson’s influence, the “Wes Anderson aesthetic”, and our envy for his craft.
