Have you ever had someone hurt you with their actions, lack of actions, or words? Most of us have, at least it has happened to me. You see, sin affects us in three ways. First, It can be done by us. This behavior affects our relationship with God and others because sin creates brokenness and builds up high walls by separating our relationships from those we love. (Isaiah 59:2) Evil can also be done to us by others as they betray our trust and relationship with them. Finally, and one we do not talk about enough, sin can be done in our presence. We see evil actions of those in the world or injustices done to the innocent, which can profoundly affect us. So what do we do? We must run, walk, crawl, or whatever it takes to get to the Cross of Calvary and let the sacrifice of Jesus bring cleansing and atonement to our broken hearts and forgiveness for ourselves and others as we seek to love those who have hurt us deeply. May we love and forgive others in Jesus' name. "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Mt 6:14–15) But does that mean people get a "pass" for hurting us or others? Not at all! The offender needs to repent, which often necessitates someone to help them see their sin in the light of God's love and grace. Remember Jesus said, "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." (John 3:19) We have opportunities in this life when we need to shine the light of truth into the life of someone we love.

Leaders lead. That’s what they do. Dictators dictate. That’s what they do. Throughout history, there have been evil and cruel rulers. Genghis Khan killed 10 to 15 million people in the Iranian Plateau, destroyed most of the Middle East, and annihilated all the major cities of Eastern Europe. Joseph Stalin through massacres, labor camps, executions, policies, and military campaigns, is estimated to be responsible for the deaths of between 15 to 30 million people. Chairman Mao founder the People’s Republic of China contributed to the deaths of 40 to 70 million people. Of course, there’s Adolf Hitler who is responsible for the deaths of 17 million civilians, including 6 million Jews. These can certainly be considered the most ruthless and evil rulers in history. These dictators had two things in common: they believed they answered to no one; and they followed in the footsteps of the evil ruler of Babel. Human history isn’t about humanity’s achievements or atrocities, but humanity’s response to God’s grace. God’s grace often comes with divine correction.

Have you ever met someone who refuses to read the instructions before diving into a project? By the time they’re done, they often scratch their heads, perplexed by all the extra parts, and exclaim, “This stupid thing is working like it’s supposed to!”

God’s design for marriage reflects God’s desire for mankind. Marriage and intimacy are God’s ideas... wonderful ideas. Marriage is a beautiful gift from God to be enjoyed and embraced and experienced with His full blessing. However, as with all of God’s designs, there is an intricacy that, when followed, works extraordinarily well. When people deviate from His design (or instructions), things can go sideways very quickly and people can find themselves exclaiming, “This isn’t working like it’s supposed to!” Read and follow the instructions before jumping in.
