Many would answer yes but where they look to find amazing faith tends to look more like consumerism than faith.  Today we close out our ReFocus series and look at how we can find excitement in our faith by rejecting the temptation to be spiritual consumers.

The word “paradox” describes a statement or event that at times may seem self-contradictory, that defies expectations or that is beyond comprehension. We encounter paradoxes all the time in our lives; however, the greatest paradox in our world is not a statement or event but a person: Jesus. Today we will look at the extraordinary birth of Jesus and how each encounter in the Birth Narrative was full of irony and incomprehensible moments and how Jesus defied expectations then and is still doing so even today.

We walk and live in a world full of darkness and it's not until something happens out of the ordinary that we see just how dark it really is. There are certain truths about the darkness that we have become blind to or have just grown used to that make it difficult for us to see, trust, or understand the beauty and allure of Light! "And in despair, I bowed my head... 'There is no peace on earth,' I said; 'For hate is strong, And mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!'" These words were written 157 years ago in the poem "Christmas Bells" (which later became the Christmas song "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"), but the despair and longing in that stanza sound like something many in our world feel even today. Many, like the poet, wonder if hope has really died or if God has forgotten about us. Today we begin our countdown to Christmas and see that God not only remembers us but went out of His way to establish hope for us in the most unexpected way!

One of the best ways to develop deep and meaningful relationships is to establish boundaries. Boundaries help us learn how to communicate, welcome people into our lives, and manage our own health. However, as helpful as boundaries are, if we’re not careful, they also have the ability to become barriers. Today we examine how early Jewish Christians did this very thing with God’s love and Law and almost stopped the growth of the church and the spread of the Gospel.

There is something inside of us as people that believes good things should happen to good people and bad things to bad people. While most people feel like they are generally good people. But the Bible tells us a different story. It shows us we are actually worse than we think we are, but also loved more radically than we could ever believe. What does it really mean to be a Christian? What is the defining attribute that moves someone from being Jesus-affirming to a follower of Jesus? Every Sunday people fill pews and stream content online claiming to be "Christians" but are really Unsaved Christians. People who prayed a sinner's prayer were baptized, read their Bible apps, give money to the church, volunteer at the church, and maybe even teach Bible stories, but are spiritually dead. Not only that, but they miss the joy that comes only from a real, deep, and meaningful relationship with Jesus. Today we look at the one attribute required for salvation and New Life in Jesus by looking at the story of a man who thought he knew but missed it - Simon Magnus.
