Following yet another tumultuous season in the life of Portsmouth Football Club, Saturday March 29th 2014 could prove to be a turning point. After sacking their manager Richie Barker during the week, Pompey registered a 2-1 victory against Newport County at Rodney Parade, their first win in seven games, which lifted them five points clear of the League Two relegation zone.
It was a first win this time around for new caretaker (and Portsmouth academy) boss Andy Awford, but the club are by no means safe yet - especially with relegation rivals Northampton to play in a few weeks time. We get the verdict on Saturday's performance and Barker's departure from Steve Wilson, sports journalist at the Portsmouth...

It's never dull at Nottingham Forest. Following a season full of political manoeuvring, touchline bans, arguments with photographers and media blackouts, the Reds have finally pulled the plug and sacked their controversial manager Billy Davies. It came following a run of seven games without a win, a sequence which culminated in Saturday's humiliating 5-0 defeat at Derby, their worst defeat to the Rams in 116 years.
With Forest now struggling outside the play-off places, who will chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi turn to next? Plus, what does this mean for Davies' future as a manager in England? We assess the decision with Steve Wright, from the 'Mist Rolling In' Forest blog (he's also written for

Farewell Chris Powell. Charlton Athletic's new owner Roland Duchatelet made the controversial decision this week to part company with the club's much loved manager - but has he put their Championship status at risk by doing so?
New manager Jose Riga, formerly in charge at Standard Liege in Belgium, has picked up two goalless draws in his first two games in charge, lifting the Addicks off the bottom of the table. We get the inside story on his appointment, Powell's departure and what Duchatelet's takeover means for the club, courtesy of Richard Cawley, deputy sports editor of the South London Press.
Meanwhile at Bootham Crescent, York City are riding the crest of a...

Wigan Athletic are at it again. The FA Cup holders are going back to Wembley for the fourth time in a year, following a stunning 2-1 quarter final win at Manchester City. The Latics are only the fourth away side to win at the Etihad Stadium this season... after Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea. Incredible.
We discuss another magic Cup performance with Paul Kendrick, football correspondent for the Wigan Evening Post and Observer - plus ask, can they actually retain the thing? We also assess the job Uwe Rosler has done since taking over from Owen Coyle and analyse their promotion prospects in the Championship.
It's a different story elsewhere in the North West, as beleaguered...

The shortest month of the year must seem like the longest for Harry Redknapp. With no wins in February and just ten weeks of the season to go, QPR are faltering… badly. The R's lost 1-0 at Charlton on Saturday to slip down to fourth in the Championship, their lowest position this season. They are now seven points off second spot, effectively playing catch up to both Burnley and Derby in the race for automatic promotion.
Following three straight defeats, can they put it right quickly? Plus does Redknapp still have the backing of the fans? We ask sports writer Sean Gallagher, who covers the club for both West London Sport and The Kilburn Times.

RIP The Preston Plumber. This week the boys pay tribute to Sir Tom Finney, following his sad death at the age of 91. Finney was widely considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the Football League, where he spent his entire career, playing for just one club - his beloved Preston North End.
Finney also played 76 times for England, scoring 30 goals, featuring at the 1950, 1954 and 1958 World Cups. Ian Rigby, Preston's club historian, joins us to reflect on Sir Tom's incredible life and career - plus explain a bit more about what made him so deeply loved by football fans around the world. Ian is also the chairman of the Preston North End Former Players Association.
