Sammi Runnels is a multi-talented human being on and off the bike. Sammi is well recognized throughout cyclocross and road racing circuits. She is also a student who is currently studying Industrial Design. We spoke about how she got into cycling shortly after hitchhiking from Mississippi to Austin, TX. She is now a top US athlete racing in multiple national championships, several world cups and even cyclocross worlds. Sammi and I’s conversation was as enjoyable as they come. Enjoy the show!
If you’ve been dug into cycling for a bit you’d be hard pressed to not be familiar with Rachel Olzer or Ayesha McGowan. These are two rockstars within the community and I want to emphasize community because that is what both of these very talented women focus on. Rachel is a Ph.D candidate based out of Minneapolis and Ayesha is a professional cyclist based out of Decatur, GA. Rachel and Ayesha are on very different journeys in cycling so we spent our time talking about what’s new, what’s old and what’s next for each of these ladies. Enjoy the show.
Analog Talk is a film photography podcast hosted by Chris Bartolucci and Timothy Ditzmer. Chris and Tim are legends at what they do. They’ve hosted people from all corners of the photography industry such as photographer Estevan Oriol, NBC producer Frank Thorpe IV, legendary actor Jeff Bridges (yes, that Jeff Bridges), Lomography GM Birgit Buchart and even two of WGTHO’s previous guests, Jonathan Paragas and Bob Price. It was an honor to speak to these two as they are both still rising stars. They are truly some of the best in the business. Cheers to another great episode. Enjoy the show.
Amanda Batty is an ex-professional downhill mountain biker who has spent a majority of her life carving down the side of mountains whether it be on two wheels or a pair of skis. During her career Amanda has suffered numerous head and bodily injuries that have led her to being a voice of awareness surrounding concussions and head trauma. This conversation contains all the laughs that should be expected plus more but also gets very deep and very, very real. Enjoy this episode with Amanda Batty.
Bill Strickland is a fixture in the cycling industry. Over the decades he and his team have contributed to how we look at cycling at large including setting an example for promoting diversity within work and also amplifying the voices of people from all different backgrounds in his publications.
This conversation gets pretty heavy when we spoke about his childhood and his relationship with his abusive father. But we also spoke about his relationship with Lance from the 90s all the way up to his confession of doing in 2013. This episode is incredible. You’re really going to enjoy this!
Imogen Cotter is an Irish cyclist living in Belgium and racing for Keukens-Radant. Imogen is one of the most down to earth people that I’ve been able to speak to on WGTHO podcast. She has an amazing story about her path to becoming a cyclist as she is pursuing her dream to become a professional cyclist. In the recent season Imogen was called up to race in Ronde van Vlaanderen which was a very monumental moment in her journey. There is so much more that we covered so tune in to listen to another great conversation w/ Imogen Cotter!
Angelo is a creative director, racer and manager of 5th Floor’s NYC chapter. Angelo and I spent time catching up, talking about bikes, of course amongst other things in Angelo’s life like hiss previous rap career. Enjoy this episode. It is a fun one!
For this episode, I got to hang out with Freya Rawlins aka @Rockerawrrs. Freya is a UK cyclist that just recently relocated to Girona. At the time that Freya and I spoke she was only days away from relocating. We touched on so many different topics including what is taking her over to Spain and cycling at large.
One of the topics that Freya and I spoke about was intersectional environmentalism which she has poured so much of her passion. To get more education on Intersectional Environmentalism Freya recommends the Yikes Podcast (@theyikespodcast) as an accessible podcast which discusses all things from Intersectional Environmentalism, anti-racism, relationships, migrant rights and justice, fast fashion, plus so much more, hosted by Mikaela Loach (@mikealaloach) and Jo Becker (@treesnpeace) they also have an incredible array of guests!
On this episode of WGTHO I spoke with Team Twenty24 cyclist, Shayna Powless. Shayna and I spoke about Zwift-life, her experience as a professional mountain biker, transitioning to becoming a pro road cyclist and watching her brother Neilson’s rise to becoming a World Tour cyclist and his debut at this year’s Tour de France. We also discussed the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Pandemic - an issue that goes widely unmentioned in America. This was another wonderful conversation with a wonderful human being. Enjoy.
Melissa Teeple is an American cyclist from the east coast. She recently completed riding the Continental Divide. In this episode of WGTHO we discussed her epic ride through the Rockies and the challenges COVID is presenting her as an international racer.
