We Have Thoughts!

*Sorry the episode just cuts off. We don't know what happened*

At the end of each episode, we each make a current ranking of the films so far. This may only be the third movie of the season, but it quickly earned its place at the bottom of our lists where it made itself comfortable enough to stay.

There are many problematic things to say about Dallas Buyers Club and we certainly aren't the first to say them. An Oscar was the bowtie on Matthew McConaughey's "McConaissance" but he may not be the actor who deserved the win.

Captain Phillips, or adult Home Alone, is an edge of your seat tense movie that is grounded by its performances by Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi as well as the excellent pacing set by the film editors. It may have become of a meme, but we all felt it down in our bones when Abdi said "I am the Captain now." Tom Hanks' performances at the end of the film is some of his best work.

We're back for another Conversations with Oscar Rewind Series! The year is 2014. We're fearful of the spread of a deadly virus, police brutality has led to protests, Midterm Elections are looming...something feels very familiar here. In comes the Best Picture nominees to distract us!

Starting with American Hustle and Amy Adams' boob tape! This star studded cast were led by David O'Russell, an Actor's director, but with an unfortunate script. The costumes and some bright performances weren't enough to get his film to top of any of our lists.

IT'S THE DAY OF THE SHOW Y'ALL. It is Emmy's night 2021 and The Roomies are back together in one room to watch and discuss the shocks, the snubs and everything in between. Ted Lasso and the Crown won big, but it was Limited Series Categories we were all watching! Listen to find out our thoughts on the winners and the losers....plus one of us might be drunk..it might be best to skip this episode all together. There are quite a few burps right into the microphone...apologies to all. There is also a rambly sections about Allison Janney, Brett Goldstein and Broadway Peeps and for those there are no apologies.

Thanks for listening! Please subscribe and follow us on Twitter and Instagram. We're fun. I promise.

The drum heavy score in this film set the pace for a whirlwind 2 hour film. The technical side of the movie was rightly awarded; the camera work was phenomenal. The film was anchored by a fantastic Oscar Nominated worthy performance by Michael Keaton.

The energy of this movie leaps off the screen. It balances a quiet contemplative, and introspective performance from Miles Teller and brash, cunning and extreme performance from J.K. Simmons. The combination of the two are what makes this movie excellent.

What could easily be described as a run of the mill biopic is elevated by Eddie Redmayne's performance as Stephen Hawking. However this biopic is not so much about the work of Hawking, but more so a look into his marriage. The script is based off Jane Hawking's memoir and focuses on her view of her their relationship.

Selma is a portrait of a man in a country that refuses to take a step forward towards equality. Lead by the talented  director Ava DuVernay, a focused script, moving cinematography, and a brilliant ensemble this film is a excellent historical portrait of a time we need to be reminded of.

It seems to be a recurring theme here on our podcast where we stumble into history we were never taught. Learning the remarkable story of Alan Turing through this film was a revelation. However, does that necessarily make it a Best Picture worthy film? You tell us.

We're always on Twitter and Instagram gabbing about movies and more! Come say hi!

This is Wes Anderson at his most Wes Anderson telling a story within a story within a story within a story. (It's not as complicated as that sounds lol) It's adventurous, and fun, fits his style of direction the best and has just about every actor in Hollywood.
