  • BOtP 4 – Patio Lanterns
(Warning – Explicit Language, mainly from Chris Doucher)
The Beers On the Patio series returns for it’s latest go round, Patio Lanterns, this time featuring We Talk Comics hosts Keith, Chris and Mo and joined by their friend Comic Canuck AKA Chris Doucher of Comic Book Therapy fame.
If you’re not familiar with it BOtP is literally held outside while drinking and eating and therefore features a more free flowing structure, essentially placing you as a fly on the wall of what it’s like to hang out with the guys while they relax and do what they always do… TALK COMICS!
For that reason it contains audio that is both far more raw in both audio quality and content, but just as much fun as any other show. Where else can you hear such conversations as what alcoholic beverage does Bruce Wayne drink compared to The Batman? Or does Superman use a salad bar and what does he like on his pizza? Plus, since it was recorded right after SDCC the guys react to events coming from it, try and figure out what the first chink in the armour of the Marvel Movies will be, and a whole lot more, so check out this EPIC NEAR 3 HOURS OF FUN and share it with the social media buttons, then head over to WTC’s sponsor COMICOSITY after you’re done.

  • We Talk Comics Episode 117: Kick Start This – The Chairs’ Hiatus
It’s a Kickstarter spotlight as Keith and Chris sit down with cartoonist Matthew Bogart to talk about his campaign for the print edition of The Chairs’ Hiatus.
“Mary and Nel were known for being close. Throughout the years the two of them zigzagged the country as the rock duo “The Chairs'” they never spent more than a day or two apart.
“That is until Mary mysteriously appears in a new city having given up her music, fame, and friends. She wants nothing more than to work her lousy job and be left alone, but the two people who just showed up on her doorstep are determined to make sure won’t happen.”
Matthew tells the story of how Chairs’ evolved from a serialized story on his website to the print hardcover backers will have in their hands in a few short months.
We get some hard numbers and behind-the-scenes info from Matthew’s experience with Comixology Submit and the Submit Bundle.
And we talk about how bootleg Back to the Future memorabilia inspired some of the more interesting incentives Matthew is offering with the Kickstarter.
We skip news and WeViews this week, but will still give a nod to news sponsor COMICOSITY. Their new series Game Changers is a look at strong female protagonists in comics and The Chairs Hiatus’ definitely fits the bill.
So sit back with a fine beverage, meet an up-and-coming creator, learn a bit about self-publishing, and laugh at the usual digressions Keith and Chris are famous for. We bet by the halfway point you’ll be picking out incentive levels on Matthew’s Kickstarter.
Click here to support Matthew’s Kickstarter until August 20, 2014.
Or purchase The Chairs Hiatus’ digitally on Comixology (DRM-Free included).
And check out Matthew’s own website to read his new series “Oh, It’s The End of the World”

  • We Talk Comics Episode 116: Out of the Iron Closet
It’s a debate-filled We Talk Comics as Keith is joined by COMICOSITY Senior Editor Matt Santori-Griffith and Comics Classroom writer Michael Hale to talk about Matt’s controversial column “I Want a Gay Iron Man.”
With the up-coming character shake-ups in Avengers NOW!, Matt jokingly said on Twitter that they should have Tony Stark come out of the closet. Surprised by some of the responses, Matt took to Comicosity to argue that his joke may not be a laughing matter.
Matt, Michael and Keith have a lively debate that takes them from the idea to Jason Todd to the success of Ms Marvel. And where is our favourite Canadian elf – Northstar?
In the news are some early SDCC announcements including 12 Image titles and 12 Dark Horse titles. And the guys talk about the rumour of The Rock playing a certain Big Red Cheese and if there is an argument against that casting that isn’t racist.
In WeViews this episode there is a really mixed bag – Storm #1 (Marvel), Star Spangled War Stories #1 (DC Comics) and the surprise crossover Groo vs Conan (Dark Horse).
Enjoy this Comicosity all-star edition and tell us in the comments what you think of the idea that Iron Man could come out of the closet.

  • We Talk Comics Episode 115: Heck Yeah We Talk Comics!
It’s the prelude to the much-anticipated We Talk Comics inter-company podcast crossover! In this special #0 episode, David from the Heck Yeah We Love Comics podcast joins We Talk Comics host Keith for an episode of comic talk, WeViews and technical problems. David does the news on Heck Yeah so it’s a news duel with Cub Reporter K as these two newshounds try to outdo each other in current headlines. Avengers 2, Star Wars omnibuses and much more get chatted up while David and Keith compare their comic backstories. WeViews include Ben Templesmith’s The Squidder (IDW), Black Market by Frank J. Barbiere and artist Victor Santos (BOOM!), Dark Engine by Ryan Burton and John Bivens (Image), and The Devilers by Joshua Hale Fialkov and Matt Triano  (Dynamite). Chris had computer problems and couldn’t join us for most of the episode. He was able to join in the WeViews by way of the best Captain Pike impression ever recorded! Enjoy the prelude and come back soon when we get the real deal crossover event on track (and hopefully on a better schedule than Deathmate). Check out Heck Yeah on iTunes while you listen to this latest instalment of the best comic talk in the business.

  • We Talk Comics Episode 114: Defining Indie
The bad teddy bear of comics, Chris Charlton owner of Assailant Comics (@Assailantcomics) joins our regular co-hosts Chris and Keith for a discussion of the state of independent comics today. In  this day and age of small print runs, digital firsts and creator owned imprints is there a need to go through the larger companies?
Along the way Plant of the Apes, power outages, and Chris’ connection to classic publisher Charlton Comics (spoiler: there isn’t one) create some fun in that WTC way. Join us as we talk about comics being produced outside the big 2 (and bunches of other stuff because, as you know, the WTC crew tends to be easily distracted).
Chris recommends one of his favourite small press books and it turns out to be one near and dear to the WTC family.
Chris Charlton’s superb comics – Black of Heart, Binary Grey, Sleepless and Open Tree can be purchased at Assailantcomics.com and soon on Comixology. Do yourself a favour and pick some up.
    Assailant Comics
As an added bonus as usual regular co-host Chris mangles several of the author’s titles in front of him. Enjoy Chris’s humiliation.
As always we thank our generous sponsor COMICOSITY.

  • We Talk Comics Episode 113: “You May Know WeTalk… But You Don’t Know Dick.”
Keith and Chris are joined by We Talk Comics’ cousin Oliver Matt Santori-Griffith (@fotocub), senior editor for Comicosity.com.
News leads directly into comic talk as our hosts take questions from Twitter about topics ranging from new DC house ads to what kind of soup they are (yes, really).
New creative teams from some high visibility titles from DC bring good discussion. What do Wonder Woman super-fans Matt and Chris think of the Finches taking over? Is the Teen Titans relaunch a missed opportunity?
Did you know there is a classic team celebrating their 30th anniversary this year *without* Marvel making a big deal of it? Matt has an old-guy moment when he finds out who.
TV and movie properties can bleed into the comics in an attempt to capitalize on possible new-reader interest. What are the best and worst cross-pollination initiatives?
This week’s WeViews are Skottie Young’s Rocket Raccoon from Marvel and the new riff on the 1980’s Robocop from BOOM! The guys also brave the horrors of Black Kiss XXXmas and Matt tells us if there is enough penis in it.
A bit of news at the very end of the show as Keith breaks down the numbers for the Comixology Submit bundle. It got buyers 100 comics for $10, but what did it get the creators?
Kick back for good old-fashioned comic talk and a lot of laughs.
Matt has been hard at work on a new and improved version of comicosity.com that is now optimized for mobile. Visit the site and let them know what you think on Twitter @comicosity
