We Talk Comics episodes

  • BOtP 6 : Dinner At The Holiday Inn Part 1
(Explicit Language… Seriously… Very Explicit Language) The very first Beers on the Patio episode was just an excuse for Keith, Chris, Brett and Mo to get together without any agenda and down a few beverages while enjoying some loose comic talk. Since then it’s evolved into it’s own crazy little thing with the boys now hanging out with their buddies and going a little crazy but having a lot of fun in a party podcast atmosphere.
On this one, always looking for something new, the guys decided hey let’s throw a little bash on the air and invite some local independent creators we don’t really know to introduce ourselves and hear their stories in a stress free environment.
So based on that they headed down to the bar at the Holiday Inn and got together with the writer of Futility, the awesome Rick Overwater. His penciller and friend Cam Hayden and the man behind the colours Nathan Millar. But we got a little more lucky, as Nathan also is the artist of a book with his sister, the extremely lovely and talented shining star that is Erin Millar who writes the wonderful Where She Walks.
Trust me folks, this is a dynamic episode you don’t want to miss, and we went so long and had so much fun we needed to break it up into 2 episodes, so be on the look out for the next part soon.

  • WTC Presents: Graphic Novel Spotlight
Keith sits down with Canadian graphic novelist Meags Fitzgerald to talk about the very personal debut project, Photobooth: A Biography. Having produced only a single-page comic story prior to Photobooth, what made Meags take this giant leap into the form?
In the past decade. traditional photo machines have started to rapidly disappear, causing an eclectic group of individuals from around the world to come together and respond. Meags chronicles this movement and the photobooth’s fortuitous history in her graphic novel.
In this interview, Meags also announces her next graphic novel, Long Red Hair, slated for spring 2015.
Find out more about Meags on her website.  And ask your local comic shop or book dealer to get you a copy of this remarkable graphic novel.
From there Mo has a chat with Tiernen Trevallion, artist of Robbie Burns: Witch Hunter from Renegade Arts Entertainment. Based on Robbie Burns legendary poem narrative poem Tam o’ Shanter, the story asks what if the events were actually based on something that happened to Burns himself and is written by Gordon Rennie (2000 AD, Dept. Of Monsterology) & Emma Beeby (Judge Dredd, Doctor Who).
The real life Robbie Burns is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and celebrated worldwide. A rising UK artist, Tiernen explains who the real life Robbie Burns was, his legacy, how to approach the supernatural subject matter as an artist, and the mentality of British and European comic readers amongst other things.
This book definitely gets the highest recommendation from We Talk Comics as well, a perfect fit for fans of Hellboy or the Sleepy Hollow TV series, and if you like Tiernen Trevallion’s the book (and you will) then make sure to check out his other Graphic Novel with Gordon Rennie, Absalom: Ghosts of London.

  • We Talk Comics Episode 120: ’66 Problems But a Batman Ain’t One
(Explicit Language) Artist Scott Kowalchuk has been a part of the history of We Talk Comics from just about the very beginning. Now spend some time with Keith, Brett and Mo plus  COMICOSITY managing editor Matt Santori-Griffith as they talk to Scott about fulfilling a lifelong dream!
Scott takes us behind the scenes on how he got the gig drawing Batman ’66 and his love for the old TV series. He explains why King Tut is his favorite show character, and he tells us about the process of creating a book for the digital medium first.
All this plus the usual zaniness that a show with Scott provides! Why is he getting into wrestling again now? His physical similarity to Bronson Pinchot of Perfect Strangers fame. And his thoughts on why the geek culture likes to beat up on each other, plus so much more, so give it a play or download and share the word with the social media share buttons.

  • We Talk Comics Episode 118: Where is Chris Doucher?
(Explicit. Lost audio now recovered… Better late than never!) Keith and Chris are ready for some comic talk but the week’s guest host has been delayed. Is it a simple mix up of time? Did he have to update Skype? Or was it … murder!?

    Spoiler: It wasn’t murder

We welcome back Chris Doucher (@comic_canuck on Twitter) for the week. It’s a comic-talk episode with the guys hitting some recent news stories including up-coming titles, movie news, and a review by the one of the three who made it out to see Sin City 2.

The big title since the guys last chatted is Grant Morrison’s Multiversity. What did they think of Morrison’s return to widescreen comics after a few years of what is, to Keith and Chris, some rough years of Batman and Superman work?

Writer Charles Soule announces his exit from Red Lanterns and Swamp Thing and the signing of an exclusive deal with Marvel. What does this mean for the corpse of Wolverine? And can Age of Ultron fix it all?

The late-breaking news has the guys talking up a storm – a Shazam film is not only happening, it is building its foundation on a solid Rock.

In an unconventional WeViews segment, Keith asks for reviews of something besides the #1s of the day.

  • Interview Special: Gerry Conway

He co-created Firestorm, Ms Marvel, Punisher, Phil Urich and so many more characters. Oh, and he killed Gwen Stacey. But to Keith, Gerry Conway always be the co-creator of Steel: The Indestructible Man.

Keith, Brett and Mo sit down for an hour with a living legend of comics, Gerry Conway.

Looking back at the DC Explosion (then Implosion), Gerry shares with us what made that period of DC so creative and innovative. In the space of a few months, Gerry had created Steel, Firestorm and Vixen.

With almost ten years of stories in Justice League, Gerry is one of the most prolific writers of that team in history. We get stories of that era ranging from how fans reacted to Crisis on Infinite Earths to why the team was revamped into the Justice League Detroit.

Gerry also shares stories of his early career at Marvel and DC including the hilarious story of the first time Gerry’s work hit Stan Lee’s desk.

Thanks to Matt Santori-Griffith who connected Gerry with We Talk Comics. Matt interviewed Gerry for a spotlight on Vixen for his regular series “Game Changers,” be sure to check that out after you listen!
