  • WTC 133: 8 Pages Further (DC Relaunch pt 2)
Keith and Chris are once-again joined by Comicosity’s Matt Santori-Griffith for part 2 of their look at DC’s relaunch through the lens of the free 8 page previews released in May. In case you missed the first episode, you can find it here.
This time the guys are looking at the three areas that the keenest observers (well, Keith anyway) see as the biggest influences on the relaunch – TV & film related titles and the popularity of Harley Quinn, and Batgirl.
There is a lot more discussion and disagreement on this episode. These are the books that are targeted new readers. What connected with the WeViewers and what didn’t? How many times can they say “it’s not for me”? And can they all agree that Bat-Mite is hilarious?
You can follow along at home by grabbing all of the 8 page stories for free on Comixology or as back-ups in the 2nd month of Convergence tie-ins.

  • WTC 132: 8 Page Preview (part one)
Keith and Chris are joined by Comicosity’s own Matt Santori-Griffith to look at DC’s 8 page short story teasers released (for free) in May.
But before they get going, there is a bit of comic talk and then a debate as Keith and Matt “help” Chris understand the ending of Convergence #8. Which would be easier if Keith and Matt totally agreed, which they don’t.
Then it’s into the 8 page stories! New status quos for Superman & Batman, and a lot of new books have the guys excited and intrigued.
It also turns out that 8 page stories take as long to review as full comics so the guys don’t make it quite through to the end. Tune in to WTC Show 133 – 8 Page Previews, similar Bat Time, same Bat Channel!
You can follow along at home by grabbing all of the 8 page stories for free on Comixology or as back-ups in the 2nd month of Convergence tie-ins.

  • WTC Interview Special: Dan Jurgens
At long last, Keith meets someone who knows more about Booster Gold than he does – Dan Jurgens!
Keith is joined by Chris and Brett for this feature-length interview with a comics legend.
Dan is writing 2 comics as part of DC’s June relaunch, a Bat-Mite mini-series and a Batman Beyond on-going series.
Though there were elements of humour in his past work, Bat-Mite is the first time Dan has written a purely humour book. He tells us how he pitched the idea and some of the characters we can expect to see in this 6-issue mini-series.
Dan talks about the complex task of working with three other writers on the weekly Future’s End and how he came to be the writer of the new Batman Beyond spin-off. Dan also tells us how the new title will appeal to new readers, Future’s End readers and fans of the animated series.
In between Future’s End and the June relaunch was Convergence, which Dan had a lead role in planning. He tells us how that all came together, some of the roads not taken, and why he left a few of Booster Gold’s mysteries still unanswered.
The guys have questions that range all over Dan’s storied career. Brett wants to know about Dan’s brief runs on Solar and Sensational Spider-Man, while Chris gets a bit derailed by some Sonic Disrupters talk.
Keith, as you can expect, has more than a few questions about Booster Gold.

Along the way, Dan talks about coming on board Superman after the still-controversial Supergirl Saga. What Dan thought of the story, how it informed where they went with the stories, and why they never retconned it away.
Dan tells us how Armageddon 2001 had to be changed, what would have happened in Booster Gold #50, and the hero who was almost part of the New 52 JLI.
And this crew doesn’t get Dan Jurgens to themselves without some in-depth chat about his run on Sun Devils.
Grab a Boosterific beverage, sit back, and enjoy this special interview with the Man Who Killed Superman.*
*Please note: We don’t actually talk about Death of Superman.

    Presented by Geek Nation Tours

It does seem unlikely, but if that somehow is the case well then this is the show for you!

And they sampled it, and commented on it, and it was nearly 3 hours of disgustingly hilarious hijinks and fun.

  • WTC Show 131: The Sound of Ed Brisson Typing
    Presented by Geek Nation Tours

Keith and Chris are joined by friend of the show Ed Brisson to talk about what he’s been up to since the heady days of Calgary Expo 2014 when he was part of our Live Panel.
Ed joins us from his palatial offices in Vancouver and you can hear him putting his ideas on the computer down to the last second before starting the show.
It has been a busy year and it’s just getting started for Ed. His first Captain Canuck story appeared in the Free Comic Day issue drawn by Canadian comics legend George Freeman.
Ed is 4 issues into Cluster from BOOM! Studios and he talks about how the first few issues have been coming together.
Keith checks in with Ed on his feelings and thoughts now that Sheltered has wrapped up as planned at #15.
And we get a sneak peek at Ed’s new book from Image “The Mantle.” What happens when a super-hero has inherited powers and we, the readers, actually see that power get passed along? And what Canadian cities cameo in the first issue of the book?
There is an interesting discussion of the myth of creators and companies copying each other including an accusation that has annoyed Ed more than once. All this plus we hit on some news of the day.

  • WTC Presents: CCEE Art Panel – Paint and Canvas vs Tablet and Stylus!

    Presented by Geek Nation Tours
Join moderator Keith Callbeck for a spirited debate between traditional art and art in the digital age. The art panel, which took place at The 2015 Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, features a spectrum of digital and traditional artists who can speak to the pros and cons of each method and what has worked for them.
Covering topics as varied as artistic “flow,” monetizing physical art, preventing repetitive stress injuries, and how 4,000 pages of art board originals could be hazardous to your floor.

    Panelists:
Gerhard (fully traditional) – Gerhard jokingly described his 20 years as Dave Sim’s collaborator on Cerebus by saying that he “draws tables and chairs behind an aardvark”.
Scott Kowalchuk (primarily traditional) – Scott has published work at Oni and Image and is currently working on his second arc of the digital first series Batman 66 (DC).
Vic Malhotra (roughly 50/50 traditional & digital) – Vic is the artist of Roche Limit (Image) and has previously worked on several X-Files books (IDW) and Tiger Lawyer (Challenger).
Chris Peterson (primarily digital) – Chris is a comic book artist for books such as Grindhouse: Bee-Vixens (Dark Horse), Ultranova (Challenger), and the up-coming Mayday (Black Mask Studios).
Bobby Chiu (fully digital except rare projects) – Bobby’s first professional art job at the age of seventeen was designing Disney, Warner Bros., and Star Wars toys. He presently works in concept and character design, teaches digital painting online at Schoolism.com, and publishes art books.
