We Talk Comics episodes

  • WTC 142: The 200th Episode Anniversary
    200 of these…
Let me repeat, WE’VE DONE 200 OF THESE!
WHAT WE’RE SAYING IS WE HAVE DONE 200 WE TALK COMICS PODCASTS OR RELATED SPECIALS OVER THE LAST (NEARLY) 5 YEARS!!!
    Whew.
So how do we celebrate a couple hundred of these things?
Well, we get Chris, Keith and Mo on the air with their buddy and co-owner of COMICOSITY, the always awesome Matt Santori-Griffith on the air and we talk something that was a hot topic when we launched epsiode one, what is DC doing and how are they going to re-brand themselves with the upcoming REBIRTH?
This leads to great talk and the guys also go through all the major DC characters and try and define what personality traits they would most like to see or feel are most effective to today’s readers.
This is a blast, just good old fashion passionate comic book talk, and we’re sure you’ll love the 200th issue.

  • WTC Interview Special: Matthew Sturges
Keith and Brett sit down with some cold beverages and empty notepads to talk to writer Matthew Sturges about his new projects with Devil’s Due / 1First Comics.
What starts as a chat about Sturges’ & John Lucas’ up-coming graphic novel The Four Norsemen of the Apocalypse transforms into an inspection of the creative impulse and the loss of faith.
Also, lots and lots of laughs!
We also talk about Matthew’s past work including Jack of Fables, and what is the same and different about working on monthly super-hero comics vs an editor-less creator-owned graphic novel

When ace fighter pilot Bendix ‘Falcon’ Falk dies in Afghanistan, he finds himself transported to Valhalla. Which seems cool until he learns that there are no girls and you die every day. Breaking out with the help of three other dead Norsemen, Falk soon runs afoul of gods, demons, and Bendix’ own dead father. Can four dead guys save the Universe? Probably not, but it’s fun to watch them try. Narrated by God (really!).
Just a note that there is the odd curse word in this episode. After all, as Keith tells Matthew, “this ain’t f***ing Word Balloon.”
Pre-order The Four Norsemen of the Apocalypse now! And check out Matthew Sturges’s on-going series, Public Relations, both from 1First Comics.

  • WTC 141: The 4th Annual Predictions Show, Nostra-damn-us!
One of the the most popular WE Talk Comics shows every year is when Brett, Keith, Chris and Mo look at their predictions from the previous year to see if anybody had a crystal ball and pull out new ones.
And why is it so popular?
Because the guys are nuts and it’s truly hilarious!
You will have a ton of laughs with the organised chaos of the guys making their predictions, and that’s the only prediction likely to come true.
Plus you’ll want to stick around to a the end of the podcast to listen to a special short interview with long time writer Mike Baron about the exciting news of his popular character Badger coming out with a new series from Devil’s Due / 1First Comics!

Tom DeFalco quietly helped shape pop culture in his 4 decade career as an editor, writer, and EIC, and in doing so likely has had a much bigger impact on your growing up than you realize.

Whether it be scripting iconic characters like Spider-Man or The Fantastic Four, helping to launch the Archie Digest Series or his historic run as Marvel Editor In Chief Tom DeFalco is responsible for some of comic’s most memorable moments, and on this episode he goes over some of those times with Brett and Mo in a nearly 2 hour interview.

Priest / Jim Owsley, what today’s writers are sometimes missing, how to approach characters when creating them, New York pizza and much much more, plus Tom does it with incredible humor and humility while sharing some incredible stories, so make sure to check it out!

If We Talk Comics promises a great interview we always deliver, & on the latest show we deliver in spades with Steve Englehart.
Steve’s writing has influenced the comics world not only from his writing and characterization directly but in how Steve Englehart hasimpacted creators following in his path who’ve read his work. As well the Steve Englehart butterfly effect has spread to film, television, animation and video games.
Get an inside look at more than 4 decades of Steve interacting with the biggest names and characters in the industry like his view on the eternally youthful Stan Lee, his tumultuous relationship with Tom Defalco until they recently shared a weekend together at Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo (where Steve didn’t kill Tom), and tremendous insight into the complicated man that is Jim Shooter.
This isn’t like any other Steve Englehart interview you’ve ever heard, and we promise he’ll be back for more fun again in the near future.

  • WTC Presents – Spotlight on Brett Breeding Panel – Edmonton Expo 2015
During the Edmonton Expo, Brett was lucky enough to moderate a couple of creator panels, the Spotlight on Brett Breeding was one of them. Brett allowed Brett (whew) to record the panel, and here it is for your amusement.
Brett Breeding is primarily known as an inker in the comics industry, and has worked on the Avengers, Thor, Spider-Man, and probably most famously, the Death of Superman comics run. Currently he works in the DC licensing division doing art for books, albums, etc. He is an outspoken guy with a wealth of great stories.
By the way, Brett is a hand talker, so there are occasionally thumps where he whack the table with his hands while he is talking.

  • WTC Presents – We Talk Comics Live – Edmonton Expo 2015
Brett and Chris are heading up the road to the Edmonton Expo, and they returned with this panel. Joining Brett and Chris on stage is artist Marcus To (The Hacktivist), and publisher of Renegade Arts Entertainment, Alexander Finbow. Alexander replaces Kurtis Wiebe (Rat Queens, Pisces) who was supposed to appear on the panel, but well, he wound up crashing another panel instead.
The guys talk licensed products, anime or manga, whichever you prefer… There is a bit of tv talk, some movie talk, and even talk about comics! Who would have guessed?
And because we can, here is the awesome Golden Age Sandman done by Vic Malhotra (who has nothing to do with this panel) for Brett.

By the way, if you notice a clicking sound throughout the podcast, it’s because Marcus was clicking his pen and then Chris got into the act too.
