  • WTC Interview Special: Dan Jurgens & Lois & Clark
It’s 2015 Triangle #2 as Dan Jurgens returns to We Talk Comics to talk about the new title he’s writing, Superman: Lois & Clark!
Keith and Chris have a ton of questions to ask Dan about writing Superman past and present. And they get to those questions right after they get in come good talk about Bat-Mite and Batman Beyond!
Dan talks about the long road it takes to get to new ideas, from Lois & Clark all the way back to Death and Return of Superman. Swinging back to Batman Beyond, the guys get Dan’s view on how much catch-up is needed in today’s comics and how to balance that with the trade-reading experience.

Along the way, Dan talks about the ending of Convergence and the status of those revisited worlds.
Keith asks a few questions about the other orphans of Convergence and Dan answers as much as he can, as honestly as he can.
Dan talks about the challenges of making a book new-reader friendly while also not making it repetitious for returning fans, a challenge he faces on both Batman Beyond and Lois & Clark.
The guys dig into the past of Superman and Dan talks about the advantages of working with a steady team of collaborators on what amounted to a weekly Superman series for many years.
And Chris finally lets Dan have it for the bait-and-switch of Reign of the Supermen! But all in good fun.
Add in some love for the days of the triangle number and we have a full episode of comic talk and exciting new developments!

  • WTC 140: Doing A Double Take
10 #1s. All released on the same day. All connected in one universe. All free on Comixology.
No, this isn’t a plan from Marvel or DC. This is the launch of the brand-new comics line from Double Take Comics.
Led by former Marvel publisher Bill Jemas, Double Take has launched 10 comics in a shared comics universe based on the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead.
Keith and Chris are joined by Double Take Comics Sales & Marketing Coordinator Gabe Yocum to talk about the innovative launch of the line, how it’s packaged in print and digital, and what they have planned for the future.
Gabe talks about Double Take’s strategy and how their parent company allows them the ability to produce quality comics for a much lower price than competitors.
Along the way, Gabe talks about the line of super-hero books that are coming in 2016 and how those will fit into the same shared universe.
The usual distractions and digressions pop up. Gabe has Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on in the background as the show starts and that gets a conversation on nostalgia and explosions rolling.

Double Take Comics first month of books are available at comic shops now as singles and in the discounted Super Pack. Or read them for free on Comixology or the Double Take Comics website.
You can get issue #1 and #2 Super Packs through their Kickstarter until October 31.

  • WTC 139: The Winter Of Our Small Press Content
Keith, Chris, and Brett grab a pile of pdf previews from small press creators and hit the WeView road!
The guys have diverse tastes so they don’t agree on every comic (or most… maybe any.. one?) but they love talking about the energy these up-and-coming creators bring to their work.
From the sci-fi one-shot Find from ComixTribe, to a stack of Canadian super-hero comics from September17, the We Talk Comics team has a lot to talk about.
Along the way, they get distracted with the odd shiny object and off-topic wander.
Follow these links to track down the Small Press Comics reviewed in this episode:

    Blue Moon
    Find
    Department of Monsterology
    September17 Productions  (Legacy, New Guard)
    Herald: Lovecraft & Tesla
Holy F*ck (and the not-reviewed sequel Holy F*cked)
Enjoy the comic talk, have a laugh, and support Small Press Comics!

  • WTC 138: WE[L]COME Back to WE[ ]TALK Comics! Wtih Christopher Sebela
Keith and Chris are joined by Christopher Sebela for an episode of comic talk, movie talk, and the usual off-topic wandering.
Christopher is the writer of WE[L]COME BACK, a terrific new book from BOOM! Studios. He talks about the series, his creative team, and how he developed the characters and concept.
Chris has a lot of questions about the various licensed material Christopher has worked on, particularly the differences between working on AVP and Escape From New York.
Keith delves into the background of Christopher’s Eisner-nominated High Crimes (Monkeybrain/Dark Horse). Christopher talks about the research and creative process for the series and it’s start as the kernel “what if someone brought a gun to Mount Everest.”
Sit back and enjoy a great episode of comics and a lot of laughs from a witty guest.
WE[L]COME BACK, Escape From New York, and the collected edition of High Crimes are on sale now.
Just days after recording this interview, Christopher launched his Kickstarter “I want to live in a clown motel.”
You have until September 30, 2015 to support his mad scheme.

  • WTC 137: The Oxymoron Live Recording
Keith & Mo work out the complex time zone math needed to finally get guests from both Massachusetts and Scotland on the show at the same time!
The first issue of ComixTribe’s new title Oxymoron: The Loveliest Nightmare has just hit shelves and digital and the guys are joined by writer John Lees and artist Alex Cormack to talk about the mini-series.
Oxymoron began as a Joker analogue in The Red Ten from ComixTribe and was an immediate hit with fans. This led to a successful Kickstarter, an appearance in The Red Ten #0 Free Comic Book Day issue, and now this mini-series. Not bad for a character who didn’t live through his first appearance!
John and Alex talk about the road that brought them to Oxymoron and working with ComixTribe. What secrets does John know of The Red Ten universe? And is Alex Cormack truly an “Alex Cormack-type” artist?
John talks about his previous works at ComixTribe, The Standard and And Then Emily Was Gone, and the guys and Alex give him a hand generating ideas for sequels and prequels (whether John likes it or not).
Along the way, there are the usual divergences into comic talk, Fantastic Four talk, and John’s close relationship with Scottish treasure Susan Boyle.
With Canadian, Danish-Canadian, Boston, and Scottish accents, we have to warn middle America – good luck with this one! Maybe turn on the subtitles (subtitles not available in some regions).
Oxymoron is available in stores and on Comixology now.
Note: This episode contains a discussion about gun violence in the United States that was recorded prior to the tragic events in Virginia.

  • WTC 136: Listener Call In Show with Ruiz Moreno
Long-time listener, first-time caller Ruiz Moreno joins Keith and Chris for a podcast on colouring, comic talk, and how they would pitch Rocky comics to IDW.
Ruiz was the Color Assistant on Amelia Cole and he talks about his role and experience working on the series.
This is the first time a colorist has joined the guys for an interview so they have a lot of questions about methods, tools, and process. What does a flatter do? What was Ruiz’ role? How much of finished art is now in the colorist’s hands?
And there is a lot of comic talk! A few news items (sponsored by Comicosity) spur conversation, and then the guys get derailed by some shared love for the Rocky franchise.
A lot of laughs and good conversation in this episode! Ruiz is a long-time fan of the podcast and it was great getting him on air with us!

  • WTC 135: Adventures In Pulp
Get ready for a great podcast Chris and Keith sit down with Brett Harris and Matthew Childers to talk about their web comic ‘Adventures In Pulp’ and an upcoming Kickstarter.
Of course the conversation does veer away from their great web comic eventually and we discuss Matthew’s ‘Army of Darkness’ comic book work and what went wrong on the Fantastic Four movie  as well as other geeky topics.
We return to the perennial We Talk Comics Question- How many comics taking place in Canada have Canadians writing them? We also discover we can’t name a comic book character that hales from Tennessee (Seriously this has bugged us since the podcast recording, if you can help please leave a comment in the comments below).
This was a fun recording session and both Matthew and Brett have bright futures in the comic industry.
This was one of those podcasts the We Talk crew will be pointing to and saying “we knew them when” long after they stop taking our calls.
Pour two fingers of fine Tennessee whiskey and enjoy!
Read ‘Adventures in Pulp’ for free on adventuresinpulp.com
Support them with actual dollars on Comixology
And watch for their Kickstarter, coming soon!

  • WTC Show 134: Putting the Band Back Together
It’s been a while since the 4 core hosts of We Talk Comics got on Skype and recorded a show but you’d never know it, because this latest episode contains all the usual insanity of WTC with Brett, Keith, Chris and Mo. Yup, The Band is back together.
Topics include (OK not topics, but things that spring up) the latest Fantastic Four movie, is there a saturation point for super hero or comic book movies, what are the guys reading, Marvel Unlimited and the greatness of Scribd, concert attendance in 2015, the average price of a comic per company, most exciting band reunions for the guys, and Paul Stanley’s on stage chatter which the guy’s try, painfully, to emulate.
    Yeah, this show’s crazy.
Plus a short convention show floor interview with Flash artist Brett Booth.
So check it out for the most unique comic podcast out there!

  • WTC Presents: The Comic Book Fantasy Draft
The most controversial (at least behind the scenes) concept in We Talk Comics history finally comes to life!
The worlds of Rotisserie Sports & comic books come together as panelists and Expo Attendees assemble dream teams and draft the ultimate Super Hero Universe with the winner to be determined by an audience vote. How will you build your Fantasy Comic Universe? Will you draft heroes that are already an established team, build around the best villains, or think outside the box? Treats will be given for participation, with a special grand prize given to the winner.
    Mo’s instructions to the players:
There will be 10 rounds, and you will have 30 seconds to make your pick. Draft order is set by a random draw, but the guy who picks first in round one picks last in round 2, and the guy picking last in round one picks first in round 2, and so on. If you’re not ready it will go to the next participant, and his 30 seconds will begin.
Once that pick is made it will come back to you. You won’t get another 30 seconds, just a chance to pick before it moves to the next person again, because we have to keep it moving, and we’ve printed the character lists off for you and the audience to have during the panel.
You can draft anybody or character you want to build your Universe, except the section called properties that have a red heading on the Character List sheet. If there’s time we will add 2 bonus draft rounds, and the properties will be eligible at this point.
Then the audience votes on who wins the whole kettle of wax!

  • WTC Presents: Whose Script Is It Anyway?
The crowd started lining up an hour ahead at Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo to see one of the hot-ticket panels of the weekend – the We Talk Comics team bringing their mega-popular Scriptments episodes alive!
Brett, Chris, Mo, Keith, Renegade Arts’ Alexander Finbow, and Calgary actress Jennifer LeBlanc lead the way in a staged reading like nothing you’ve ever heard.
200+ people packed into the panel as we dug deep into the dark parts of the internet to find you real unproduced scripts! These were all comic book films that were almost coming to a theatre near you!
LAUGH! As Brett portrays Jack Black in Robert Smigel’s Green Lantern script!

SWOON! As Alexander and Jennifer voice Peter & MJ in a love scene from the legendary James Cameron Spider-Man script!

MARVEL! As Mo does Western Canada’s best Nic Cage impression in the almost-got-made Superman Lives!
Keith is there for some narration and the odd supporting character, and we bring a pile of audience members on stage to join in the fun! For added laughs, those reading the scripts were not given their lines until we were in front of the audience.
