We Wanna Watch

This week's Lane's Frame is one of the most Acting movies of all time, All About Eve (1955) directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz! We talk about George Sanders as an early candidate for Get This Guy Off The Screen, Anne Baxter's whole Thing, and, of course, Lane's continued affinity for cool heavy vintage phones. This is the Chop Not Slop version of the episode because I cut out like 25 minutes of us arguing about fandom in the beginning, lol.

This week's Rick's Pick is Magnolia (1999) directed by Paul Thomas Anderson! After a short digression about Secret Santa and Magic: The Gathering, we discuss this movie's star-studded ensemble, interconnected storylines, and general BLEH! vibes.

This episode's Lane's Frame is The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) directed by Anthony Minghella. The first movie in my secret yearlong project to get Ricky to watch a bunch of 1999 Oscar contenders in preparation for our eventual American Beauty episode, we go in on Ripley's great cinematography and winning performances, and somehow don't get too thirsty for Jude Law along the way. Also does anyone else think about how Scorsese uses that Dropkick Murphys song like four times in The Departed? No? Just me?

This week's Rick's Pick is Metropolis (1927) directed by Fritz Lang! We discuss this movie's impressive artistic style and timely Themes (TM). AKA, we bullshit about AI for like 40% of this episode lol. Plus: Ricky watched TWO movies on his own!

This week's Lane's Frame is No Bears (2022) directed by the recently Golden Globe-nominated Jafar Panahi. We discuss the director's prior filmography and this film's metafictional premise. And by we, I mean me, because boy are my arms tired from carrying this episode!

This week's Rick's Pick is The Usual Suspects (1995) directed by Bryan Singer. At one point Ricky says, "chungus sussy", just so you know what you're getting into.
