We have recently discussed how happiness is a choice...

...but is a choice that should never come at the expense of sweeping pain, suffering, wounds, offenses, hurt, bitterness under the rug.

AKA--don't live in denial. 

For you and I to be change-makers in the world, we must first become changed. That is--we need to become whole and healed individuals. Because you can't give someone something you don't have... 

Before we pretend we are happy, or boast about how we are gonna build some great company or piece of art . . . let's clean house. Let's clean up our messes and forgive those who have left messes of our lives.

Then, and only then, will we be able to weave our destines.

Masses around the globe are pushing for personal freedom. Yet, and the masses step into greater levels of "freedom" it comes with the cost of losing sense of purpose, meaning, significance, and destiny. 

The willful embrace of responsibility (for ourselves first, then those we are over, then those we relate to, and those we touch and then the world at large) leads us to to a deep sense of meaning and purpose in life. The willful taking on of the plight, suffering, and darkness in ourselves and others launches us into our destiny.

Like Sheikh Zayed, founder of the UAE, he could have chosen personal freedom, instead he went village to village, camp fire to camp fire paying tribes and families to send their children to school. He build a nation--but he didn't have you.

What is in front of YOU to do . . . that isn't required, but it is an invitation to give your best years for something other than yourself.

Happiness is the only thing that matters--but happiness is a decision that you choose not a product of circumstance.

It isn't a vision greater than ourselves that makes us happy. Or a good day, better job, raise, car, "doing what we love" or "following our hearts"... none of that will make us happy (it may help you continue to live in delusional, but won't make you HAPPY).

You must CHOOSE happiness every day, regardless of circumstances.

The pursuit of happiness tends toward the pursuit of pleasure, mostly because people don't know what will actually make them truly happy in the long run, so they mask their pain with the pursuit of pleasure which will always result in tragedy.

Following your heart is on the top ten for the worse advice anyone has ever given or received. How many people have been murdered, raped, bankrupted, divorced, abused, abandoned, or overdosed because they decided to follow the emotion of the moment rather than staying true to principles and wisdom.

Just as you can't adapt the laws of physic to suit your needs, you can't reject principles and justify the corruption of morality under the guise of "following your heart" and expect good long term results.

Most of us think that "changing the world" is really hard to do. I would agree, "Changing the world" is nearly impossible when we put it in terms of changing seven almost eight billion people's lives.

But, changing the world is quite simple once we realize, like Nicholas Winton, that if we help one person in front of us--we will have changed the world.

When I was writing my Honor's Thesis in university . . . I was stuck. Big time. After months of research and staring at a blank sheet of paper I couldn't get a single sentence out.
