Much of my information came from a tour of the ruins at Tiawanaku, just about a two-hour drive outside of La Paz. Be sure and visit if you are in Bolivia. It is worth it. But have an interpreter with you, the guides, obviously, speak Spanish.

I visited a young Methodist couple in their home in Caypayque, high in the Andes. There were no windows to hold in the warmth. (Glass windows were too expensive.) A fire and lots of soot.

This was the only food and water I saw. Some potatoes and greens.

This was their CLEAR water bottle with muddy drinking water.

Another home we visited in Caypayque. Notice the ‘walls’ don’t even stop the wind. And notice the US folks wearing heavy jackets.
