A recent article suggested NSW HSC students are NOT marked down for spelling mistakes. Paul Martin, CEO of NESA, spoke to the Two Murrays to clear up a misunderstanding.
"When you are writing under exam conditions, you will make a couple of spelling errors. We don't sweat the small spelling errors, but we do make sure that students can write correctly and coherently. So spelling, grammar, syntax and vocabulary all matter".
"Effectively the HSC is not a spelling test, but spelling matters."
"Spelling is paramount as part of the whole subject of English. Of course it is."

Domenic Moore decided one day to trek from Melbourne to Brisbane to raise money for the Indigenous Marathon Foundation. And just for a challenge, he decided to go barefoot and unassisted. He set out in late November and arrived in Southbank 74 days later. A little battered and bruised, Domenic has raised over 10 thousand dollars. He shared his story with the two Murrays.
