Final preparation for Delorean Overdrive show at MAGWest. By the time this launches, it will be over. Starting to feel sick from over work agian. Immune system crashing. Feeling a bit unprepared. Taking additional days for recovery. Late week practice. Worked on printing game marketing material. Issues w/ print. Took 2 days to sort out. Cut the stacks. Rode bike for errands and quiet time.

Stayed in as much as possible. Proposed additional music. No takes for demos but, interest in closing song. Sleeping more regularly. Earth quake woke me up during sleep. Mostly just focused on the work I need to do.

Made Largely of radio scan recording from a South African SDR and antenna via KIWI SDR. Scanned airwaves while hopping bands and decoders. In Ableton, created drums out of sample w/ randomized starts points. Then made samples synth combined w/ FM synthesis to make initial chords. live scanned layered synth for interesting start points for the sample and live recorded as automation. Found weird harmonies while using method. built a similar synth this time using alpha juno vst. layered it w/ radio sample synth. Bass made from radio sample tuned. Cut different parts of radio recording in and filtered layers for interesting results.

Repeat week 32 goals. Remember to stop and compose the next part mentally, even if it's something you don’t know how to create. This will help you maintain awareness of the difference between what you want to achieve and the song that’s actually taking form.

Ran short on time so I didn’t go super in depth with this one. I had a different project file that was more involved that I worked on across 2 days and realized I wouldn’t be able to get it to a reasonable state in the time I had so at the last minute I scrapped it and quickly threw together an ambient track. For this I drew inspiration from the soundtrack to the game Lost in Vivo.

Y’all, I am so burnt out. Pain, limited ways to spend my time, and general motivation are all kicking my butt. But, even when feeling burnt out, each day can still come with its own wave of energy and motivations. It took me about 3 weeks of not writing before having a day my head and my heart were clear enough to make a song. I’ve been trying to do other music projects with mixing, listening, and non-music stuff to clear my head a bit. I am not sure if my break will keep going, but I will keep popping in when I can.

Today surprised me with a jaunty little tune. The sine wave was going to be vocaloid, but I wrote a bit too many ornamentations and it wasn’t sounding good when I brought the midi over to Ableton. I’m really proud of the mix! Such a fun 3 minutes.

Nice simple track for Weekly Beats this week

Challenges were heavily feature the TR-808 for 808 day and use only Roland synths.

I'm using the official 808 and 303 VSTs from Roland which are amazing, but the Arturia Juno and Jupiter VSTs from V Collection which I still don't love.

Kept very simple to something that could have authentically be done in the late 80's by sticking to a Space Echo and one compressor and no other FX.

I'm actually using 2 TR-808s because I wanted to use Maracas and Clap, Rim and Claves and two versions of Cymbal

It was initially using the chord progression from Green Hill Zone from Sonic, but then I changed the initial vamp to Dm - Em so it had a bit more of a D Dorian feel.

All pretty simple diatonic chords except a spicy Bb in the bridge turn around.

My fav part is the call and response between the Jupiter oscillator sync lead and the 303 although I wonder if I've fallen into my usual trap of making the first half of the track a bit boring compared to the end.

Super Scaler was the hardware which powered the classic Sega arcade machines like After Burner and Space Harrier hence the graphics in the video. I added a bit of chromatic aberation to give some audio reactivity in Vizzy.
