I had a friend hit me up - knowing I've been in my feels the last week - and sold me his M8 for a very generous price... little did I know I'd come home and check the serial number, and it was MY ORIGINAL M8 (that I regretfully sold a good 7 months back)!!! The SD card even had all my original content on it despite having journeyed across the lands between a few additional owners :)

I keep catching myself postponing and starting a song on the last day. I am committed to keep going for as long as I can and my goals is to at least keep uploading till my vacation in June but I'm noticing some form of resistance eventhough when I'm starting the song without any expectations I make my favorite kind of songs and am having fun creating. I know this in theorie but I am now consciously experiencing that there shouldn't be any pressure to create "something good" but just to create for creativity's sake and maybe there are some "good" songs in there.

I am very exited when I think about my process as a producer and that I'm learning a little more about music every week. I feel so much more comfortable than 2 years ago. I'm keeping up and hope to let you all hear some new tunes in June :)

A LSDj tune this week, with some heavy misuse of the groove settings for swing. Some kind of attempt at speed garage without much 90's in it, except the whole game boy thing. Party starts at around 0:40

Also trying out retroplug for the first time, recording into ableton for some mixing. I usually record from my Game Boy but time is tight!

Speaking of, ran out of time (and patterns (if you use LSDj I know you know)). There's always things that could be further polished, but I feel liberated by this whole weekly beat mentality as well. I usually spend around 2-3 more time on my "regular" tracks. The time restraint really helps me push forward instead of endless looping.

Kind of pushing a new sound, but a bit limited in the bass department trying to make some interesting leads which occupied the wav-channel, which maybe could have been better used for some deeper basses.

This week was a house music challenge on the wav.ryders Discord. I leaned fully into late 80s Chicago deep house and I am genuinely proud of how this one turned out.

Classic 909 drums. Driving bassline. A pad. A topline. Done.

I spent the week in the mountains with my family, squeezing in small studio sessions whenever I could. At first the track sounded more contemporary, especially the drums. But going back to the roots and committing to the 909 changed everything. Staying close to the original drum patterns gave it the right pulse.

Exploring this genre is fascinating. There is so much depth in what seems simple.

This one was pure fun.

This is my worst submission yet, and I have accepted the fact. It felt liberating. I have had zero inspiration or time for producing this week. I fucked around with breaking stuff, resampling/chopping and breaking it some more. No limits. I asked myself: "Does the tempo of a song need to be steady?" Can I introduce "swing" by automating it? I tried. Two different LFO:s automating each other connected to the bpm. It varies between like 72 and 93 or something. I don't really know.

Don't hold back here. I want honest opinions on the tempo-automation thing. How bad is it?

not much to offer this week, actually just noise.  with a few details, but just noise.

was not a bad week, but not a good one either.  maybe i should take a break from the weeklies to recharge and see.

but maybe something more fun: how do you remember your melodies? 😅 do you have strategies for that, do you write them down, do you record them on your default instrument, do you sing and record them?  i struggle with keeping my melodies and often lose them while trying to record/develop them, getting distracted and then losing the original thought that started it.  so what do you like to do? :)
