I've been sticking to the same concept a few weeks now, quick and fun and raw 606+303 live acid to cassette tape. Four bar long pattern with some filter/reverb/volume tweaks. Easy&dirty.

I was tired this week. Too tired to do something musical most of the evenings. At first I thought this was due to work. I had to give a late class on Monday, I had so many papers to check on Tuesday that I spent until 22.30 doing that, and then I had more lectures on Wednesday and Thursday. However, upon further reflection, I realised that none of this was really the root cause of my tiredness. Instead, it was what inspired the name of this track: I went to IKEA last Sunday and I am still recovering.

So I didn't have the energy to do much more than what I did. I had this funny loop from an earlier experiment with internal midi on the m8. I decided to resample that, downsample it, and so on. Then I also made some small loops with the MicroMonsta 2 and the Volca FM2. Same process: (re)sampling and then some downsampling. Some drum instruments are from Trash's FM drum pack but I also used some samples. I made the bassline with m8's FM synth. I made the arrangement in less than an hour I think. It is simple, but sometimes I like things simple. I probably spent another hour the next day adding bells and whistles, mostly within the box, but also making one riser with the MicroMonsta 2.

Then the whole thing went through the Ableton sausage factory (also did some other things in Ableton that coloured the sound quite a bit).

Another fade out. In this case it symbolizes the life energy being sucked out of me while wandering through the halls of IKEA.

Okay, I'm off to assemble some f*cking bed.

It takes me back to when I first got it as a teenager - my first "serious" synthesizer.

It's fun to think back on the hours spent making sounds with it.

This week I've somehow had some extra time to sink into polishing an actual full track on the Dirtywave M8. Mainly built around the bassline where I've mimicked the same approach I used on the A4 of fading in a modulated filter and volume pulse over time using different tooling (the M8 has 4 LFOs and ability to modulate a modulator).

Bombarded by the deception and lies of the AI industry I chose to sample boy Amodei for the ironic outrage about Chinese companies stealing their dataset. Thus the tune title.
