Traveling this week, so wasn't sure if there would be time to finish a submission. But here we are submitting one day early. This one is all about flangers.  Every instrument has a flanger, some obvious some subtle.

Good old vibey rnb, off-kilter drums over airy synths. A bit lengthy but this is just me trying out different types of progressions/techniques throughout a track.

The title stands for "Would you like to come back to my place, bouncy bouncy?" because the initial idea had a lot of bounce to it and what better way to acknowledge that than a Monty Python reference?

This was an interesting one as far as the comparison to 2012 goes as, once the original concept was tracked, it took a bit of work for the rest of the song to emerge. Previously, that would have been the cue to shelve it for now and find a different idea, but I applied something I talk about with the young people I work with: When you hit the point you're ready to stop the task that's frustrating you, do one more thing before stopping.

The point of it is to build tolerance for frustration and capacity to act despite it, but I'm also well aware that sometimes the right idea is *just there*, so it's worth pushing through as much as you can.

Anyway, I managed to push through and find the rest of this one, but definitely could have cooked it a little more, except the deadline loomed. Similarly, a couple of the fader moves could be tweaked, but this whole thing isn't about perfection, so... needs must as the devil drives and all that.

Another rushed composition this week, life keeps interfering. I wanted to do something for 808 Day so I composed this on the Dirtywave M8 using only Samples From Mars 808 samples. I ran the M8 output through a Bastl Bestie mixer to overdrive it and warm it up a bit, other than that there is no mastering / post-processing.

I'm still feeling like working in a bit of a noisy distorted guitar mode.  Additionally I wanted to play around with the other new musical instrument/toy I got for my birthday.  It's called an otamatone.  I'd never heard of them, but I guess they're really popular in Japan and they're definitely fun to play with.  It's decently versatile and can even make some theremin-ish sounds.  It pops up several times in this track.  There's a spot in the middle that kind of spotlights it that's probably a little janky because I was literally figuring out how to play it and what it could do as I went, but I like that part anyway.  Lyrically I got inspired by classic cartoons like Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes.

Alright, that’s my aim until December, my ideal style, my compass, my map.

Though this needs more refined mixing and “it wasn’t that so far” if I may say so myself.

GarageBand is limited you know? In the sense that you are taking a Twingo to do the 24h of Le Mans. It can work to finish if you keep the right expectations.

However, it contains tons of cool stuff to mix:

- EQ with analyser

- Compressor with good settings

- Different reverbs and delays

- The ability to add track effects etc.

But PER TRACK.

So you’ve got to be creative. This is that.

Everything was just peaking and that means you have to lower half of the tracks otherwise nothing works. Drums are split into 2 (one for the kick and bass; another one for the trebles and a snappy snare). There are 5 guitar tracks with 2 overdubbed for left/right panning…

Man, this monster took me 10 drafts to make it sound remotely as I wanted with clarity.

Maybe with 2-3 more days I would have added lyrics. But cool, I need to attend a bachelor party, imho this works as an instrumental piece.

So stoked about the work. Now let’s continue!

Back in like... 2012? 13? 11? I don't really know - my friend Tony stopped by the apartment I had on 1st street where I had the most consistent studio setup of my life. Anyway, some fooling around with a 13-bit Ensoniq EPS and an Akai reel-to-reel 1/4" tape machine, we just recorded little snippets.

In a sleepy haze one night ago, I kind of arranged them.

Then immediately erased the entire production on accident.

Then rebuilt it as best I could in like 5 minutes.
