I'm submitting this one with a cheat link because I was out camping all last week. It was great, I met a lot of cool ppl, listened to some fun music and got to see a bunch of cool art projects and installations. Unfortunately I didn't have time to record a track, so I'm submitting this one a little late :)

This one is pretty basic. I threw down a chord progression in D and opened up the filter on it over like 60s. I then recorded a long sample of myself improvisinng my shakuhachi alongside the progression using the m8 sampler's SONG mode record setting. This setting plays your existing track to you while you record so that you can line up your sample with your track. I used the m8's built-in microphone for audio-in. Once I had the sample, I threw some distortion and effects onto it and called it a night.

In 2024, I saw Shabaka perform on a bunch of flutes live with a backing band (including a synth), and since then, I've been really interested in combining flute with electronic music. One of my goals this year is to try and incorportate shakuhachi into my m8 tracks (and maybe even perform live on the flute). This is a pretty quick submission, but I'm excited to get more practice with this workflow. Also feel pretty happy with how this turned out for the amount of effort it took.

Let's do something REALLY last minute.

Did I say I was last minute last week? I uploaded this with five minutes to spare.

Not much to say about this. I built this around the arp in the beginning, which was playing around with a basic granular synth. The base sound is goats :) After that, it was just sort of building on the idea. Finally got to sit down and work with like two and a half hours to spare....gotta hit upload!

We did it! Next week is the halfway point. Y'all rock <3
