noir nightmare breaks

the night walks at my side

composed on m8

im playing the sax/woodwinds

the drums are chopped up jazz jungle rolls that I reconstructed

I got inspired by Artie Shaw's Nightmare and wanted to make something in that vein - but also... very... out there.

Attempted to revisit some live noodling with the M8 and Polyend Play like I did for week 17

Had a lot of issues mapping knobs on the Play to parameters on the M8 but (because of the Play methinks) but eventually figured it out. Probably not an ideal setup. There are some really cool pattern rearranging features on the Play, but using it in that mode seems to really mess with the midi controls. Oh well, almost halfway there!

Wanted to create something that feels like summer. Don't know if I succeeded, but I'm pretty happy :)

Couldn't squeeze the vocals in, I planned on recording. But it is what it is.

Crunched for time this week and next. 😓 Hoping to catch up on tracks and comments once things calm down. For now, here's an abandoned sketch from the beginning of the year that finally got across the finish line this week.

Take care everyone. Happy Week 25.

Happy summer solstice, y'all!

Simple one this week. Got some fun material jamming with my friend and his modular rack. Chopped a bunch of it up and added a take of doing a little live Perkons sequencing on top.

Edit: oops!! Accidentally uploaded a bounce with only one track soloed. Will re-upload the right track when I get a link :)

oh son, what have you done?

is there a problem? cat got yr tongue?

disappointed by the major one

he has everything, but he ain't having fun

let's go

big man, fill up your plate

lights up, let's look at it straight

disappointed by your figure eight

you've got everything, but it ain't lookin' great

(for you)

it ain't lookin' great

let's go

there's a propinquity

to your iniquity

i don't understand

(i don't understand)

week of vacation pretty successful with tasks and art-ing and adventures. last hurrah before returning to work. here's hoping for good job news later this week ahead as i return.

anyway, lotsa funky lil glitches chopped and routed outta machine and a house kick, which always makes me think of eight frozen modules. took funny vocal sample and stretched it bigtime, then filter morphed it the second half, plus bonus extracted disco house beats. inadvertently reminds me of wonky korg electribe jams from a decade back. fun.

Need I say more? Possibly the hottest weekend of the year, complete with electronic beats, sea waves, wine & other cold drinks.

Heat, heat, bring on the heat

Heat, heat, bring on the heat

Heat, heat, bring on the heat

Sweet sweat, bring on the heat

Heat, heat, bring on the heat

I'm a summer child, I'm a summer child, I bring the heat

I'm a summer child, I'm a summer child, I bring the heat

I'm a summer child, I'm a summer child, I bring the heat

I'm a summer child, I'm a summer child, I bring the heat

Heat wave, turn on the heat

Beats, waves, bring on the heat

Heat wave, turn on the heat

Beats, waves, bring on the heat

Beats, waves, bring on the heat

Heat wave, bring on the heat

I'm a summer child, I'm a summer child, I bring the heat

I'm a summer child, I'm a summer child, I bring the heat

Beats, waves, turn on the beat

Heat wave, turn on the heat

Heat, heat, feel the heat

Heat, heat, feel the heat

I'm a summer child, I'm a summer child, feel the heat

Bit of a janky jam today... trying to live up to my name. Had fun exploring ways to use Live mode on the M8 together with the modular/hybrid setup, and kinda got lost in it... then realized I was about to run out of time before the week's deadline, oops.

Anyway, here you are. Kick from Bohm, one of the voices from Monumatic, the rest from the M8. Some FX and all the audio routing done in Ableton.
