Live soundboard demo

I've been away for a while and am trying hard to get back into Weeklybeats, though sometimes my tracks turn out to be more like 'Weekly Sounds'...

This week, I’m submitting something I've been working on for an upcoming live show. I'm live-scoring a movie using synths, a diy nightmare box and ambient textures, and I'll be joined on stage by a classical guitarist.

To cover the film's different scenes, I prepared various sound loops that I mix live using eight faders. I loaded these loops across eight tracks on the M8 and mapped them to an external MIDI fader controller. My goal was to design complementary sounds across different frequency ranges so I can easily balance the energy on the fly.

This track is a quick jam testing a specific combination of sounds for one of the scenes.

We made it to Sept! This week is just 100% M8. Full disclosure I have not really worked with the M8 much for well over a year. Unlike Ableton it's not something I can just pick and go after a long time away! Main synth pad programed from scratch and bass is a sample. Sorry that it's so short I just didn't know where to go with it and I was a bit frustrated by having to put KILL commands everywhere. Over time Im sure the experience will get better but I have never been one for trackers. The M8 is just that bad ass that I wanted one anyway.  Hopefully you dig it! Also this track is set up to be altered or remixed if you are so inclined. Actually all my tracks are like this I just defaulted to whatever was selected in the license section... oops.

That's 'attention deficit drum and bass'. Haven't been that motivated in this last part of the year so going back the easy well for me of basic 2 operator FM with the OPL. Without much of an editing pass to smooth over the edges you get some swings from section to section. It's something anyway.

Here's some slow paced, dark, atmospheric d&b/jungle. The intro sample tuned the song concept into "angels vs demons in a holy war". 

I enjoyed editing the break for this one. It's a rechop of a few different loops from two different Total Science sample packs. I think one was from Loopmasters. The Plastic Jam fills are from one of their Bandcamp packs. Chops were done on the MPC. It's a tiny bit Seba and Paradox inspired, however this lacks the forward motion they usually get in their stuff. I'd probably get more sophisticated on fill variations, and add some break switching if I decide to dive back into this.

The lead is a gforce SEM preset. The pad washes are samples from various places.

I had a ton of trouble dialing in this Analog Lab foghorn bass. It's still not right, but I suppose it is presentable.  I ended up bussing the bass to two channels and splitting the low lows and the mids apart, then trying to tweak the separate aspects of the bass that way. It's probably the right path but I don't think I executed it smoothly. I was having a hard time maintaining the midrange sizzle on the foghorn without killing the character of the sound with a compressor.
