I've been diving back in to techno (more than 10 years agò I was living in Berlin and it was the best), I watched various videos about gears and ideas, I really liked watching stuff made with boxes from elektron or torso, and since I don't want to buy a new one I've been testing ways with move and of course the m8, initally the move (hacked) felt like a nice home for it, tons of cool modules, midi fxs to generate notes, granular synth and fx, simple way to play and record on the fly, but as usual I find the move to be mostly a performative device rather than a writing/finishing one, which I really like cause it can pair well with the m8 and I will definitely use it that way in the future. I also tried an insane app on the ipad 'sequentia' is really awesome, instant bangers and very fun to use, great design. The issue I had tho is of course I prefer to work on 1 main machine instead of many and also some of the features I was trying to emulate from the torso or tonverk etc were not really available in either, basically in those boxes you can start random and then commit into a sequence (notes, gates, lfos, scales), so my thought was 'well I will just do the same but manually on the m8, sequencing stuff and playing around with values to get nice patterns, random fills, plus occasionally using drunk or random on the lfos for the added complexity, and I had lots of fun! Also if you are looking into sequentia you can potentially record midi into the m8 once you find a nice pattern which is a nice way to go about it, is just not as realtime as it would be on torso machines or elektron where you can constantly play back and forth with random and commits, plus performing with tmp mode and then commit is also a great creative way of doing things! I also dived a bit more on polyrhythms, not my strongest suit but is definitely an essential part of producing so I will try to integrate it more with groove on the m8 <3
While looking at the s4 I tried to do the granular trick on the m8 again, when I tried months agò it was ok-ish but this time I think I got it pretty well, is working great and really creating beautiful sounds, I haven't used it on this track but I will definitely be soon, is awesome for both starting some ideas and atmosphere or resampling a section of your track and then granularize it to create breakdowns and even new rhytmic patterns, glitches, repetitions etc. and then bring back the original section, lots of cool ways to use it!
There is still a lot of tricks that I want to try with timestretching, random lfos on top of random lfos, touchscreen for macro changes to resample, internal midi to sequence stuff and more, the only thing I couldn't find ways to do when looking at the s4 is the resonator with scale locking, maybe something crazy with the eq and lfo tracking or trigger? We'll see
