  • Week 19 - Paisleyfrog - Tiptoe Through the Tulips (The Tale of Doris and Moose)
    Let’s make something weird.
Ran outside last night and took some pictures of my neighbors yard for the cover art. Because I was like “o shit I need tulips”. And then I remembered, “o yeah, my neighbors.”
It all started when I pulled out my old boxes of tapes. I always say “follow the creativity”, but I wasn’t expecting to end up here. The 4track stuff didn’t yield anything right offhand, but I found an old tape my sister made when she was 12. She got a tape recorder for her birthday and made a whole bunch of recordings of stories and of skits and of picking on her brother. I thought it might be fun to use one of those. The Tale of Doris and Moose (as I call it - it's about "tiptoe through the tulips") was always a little creepy to six year old me. I asked my sister if I could use it - she thought it was hilarious. Agents are go!
What made the song click in my head was realizing I should use some manner of Tiptoe Through the Tulips sample. Tiny Tim wasn’t an option, but I could go much older: it was written in 1929, and those recordings have entered the public domain this year! Grabbed a track from archive.org and got to work.
I thought it might be fun to try and isolate the parts to remix it, so I used the stem separator. Holy carps - it assumed the surface noise of the recording was percussion and completely isolated it. Perfect clean recording! I may need to try that on my own 78s…
I mainly just started throwing odd stuff at Logic and tried to organize it. Glitch2 is a go-to, but it failed me Friday - the plugin crashed in Logic and pretty much took down the project. The only way to reopen it was to uninstall Glitch, open the project and remove it from the tracks. Ugh. That’s for Saturday.
After I went to bed, I figured out what to do. Freakshow plugins instead of Glitch (I mostly used automation on MISHBY, but also used Dumpster Fire. Also overdrive, distortion and delay). Use the story as a middle section. Get a little louder somehow at the end. Done.
All went together pretty easily on Saturday. The guitars went in an unexpected direction…a lot more metal than I was planning…and the major key change at the end amused me, so I went with it.
"Tiptoe Through the Tulips" is public domain. (Jean Goldkette And His Orchestra, 1929)

  • Week 19 - rjlmrq - from center stage they look like little stars
Bass, two cellos, and streetscape sounds.  Started out as a short and simple study, a little sweet, maybe a little sad.  But adding the street sounds pushed it off the edge into really strong melancholy.  I don't know how that works.

  • Week 19 - Tomavatars - Nostalgic Candles
    Hello folks.
It’s been a tough week for me, as I’ve moved out of the flat where I’ve lived for the past nine years with my kids.
All those memories are flooding back, and I’m feeling overwhelmed with nostalgia.
I’m now in my new place, without electricity, but with enough battery power to finish this week’s track. I hope you like it.
    Have a great week!

  • Week 19 - monstret - run the dub
edit: oops, jump scare warning on the intro section. I was in a hurry to go to lunch when I exported so didn't listen back. the kick comes in very hot and so does some of the other elements.
This SoundCloud link has a mellowed out intro without the same jump scares.

    yep, another last minute track!
this started on the op-xy and finished on the computer. I wanted to try out the midi workflow and see if it'd be easy to sketch most of the tracks on op-xy if I have a break at work, it was very nice and easy. drums to a bit to replace the way I did it.
no sounds in this one are from the opxy - only midi.
excited to hear what you guys have made this week!

  • Week 19 - nerBeater - Dance Floor Oh For (Rescuscitate Mix)
Life? Come back to movement, while you're still here. Hang on to the pulse because 90 year olds can grow brain cells and two year olds eyes should never stop twinkling high above, held in esteem.
Past and future combine in the experience we call the present moment. When did the beat drop, when did the light strike, and which signal gets to you faster? Which signals resonate within you and across time and space, the most? I might call that love. I might call it a reason to dance. I might not find the door. That's spooky action at a distance, man. What even am II??
I hope you find your day, light. I want to hear you sing, song.

  • Week 19 - note! - Gex Machine
trying out new FMS for GBA. This is definitely a fun little guy that blends so much great stuff from other GB music making platforms. This Baby's First FMS was just out of the RG35XX SP but looking forward to getting a proper FX chain in here, sync it up and getting familiar with it as a performance tool. Lots of potential fun.

  • Week 19 - franky - Streets
    Week 19 "Streets"
    Crap title again.
Sup everyone?  Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers on here.
My gf and I are moving into a house, and we didn't really know we were until last Monday and we have gone Gung-ho on packing and moving boxes.
I'm extremely ecstatic that I will have a studio room dedicated for music and since we wont be apartment living no more, I will be able to DJ out of speakers! haha I'm thrilled, decks are dusty. It's been awhile.
Any who I'm really busy, and Saturday I was exhausted by 7pm could barely keep my eyes open. Somehow, after my gf went to bed I was able to slam a monster and manage 4 hours of music time and I made this little bit. After a bunch of mamosas and brew I tried to mix it today.
Needs work, deserves more time and could be better. Prolly be able to do one more track next weekend before I take down my computer setup.
    cya next week on...Weekly Beats!

  • Week 19 - Princent Vice - Firm Material Services
Like many of us i’ve been taken with FMS, the new GBA groovebox from Fors. This is my first jam with it. 4x channels of 2op FM and the DMG noise channel. Using my n3DS to play it using open_agb_firm, but it runs in many emulators on other platforms as well. Strongly considering a modded GBA or one of those FGPA so i can get clock through the link cable jack.

I recorded this into the M8 so i could take advantage of the EQ and fx. Then i did some of my mastering magic in Logic for iPad, but it was mostly RX950 that did it.  No clue what to call this, but i heavily recommend everyone check out FMS. Free demo has all features except saving.
