  • Week 19 - PieBaron - Oculogenesis
I'm really happy with this one, its a bit spontaneous and rushed but was really fun. Its a live recording and I used a sample rate in VCV at 96kHz, it made some of the modules sound way cleaner. I also did a bit of eq in post

  • Week 19 - ENC_ - W19 - 5_10_26 + 808Faith&Breaks (2 Songs)
AL's B-day is next monday. Spent the week celebrating w/ her. Ordered her gifts and gave them as they came in. Tomodachi Life and fountain pen ink w/ better archival and art properties. Works better w/ dip pens then previous inks too (according to her). Took a while to find a good one. Bowling w/ T&K, L&R, T&D, and ALF. In Laws needed help translating to talk to electrical contractors. Insurance being shitty and contact left w/o helping or properly passing on our file. Concerned about getting fire construction done before money for apartment runs out. Conflict w/ contractors on licensing and permits. Discovered redwood frame under wall dating back to early development of area. House's wiring retroactivly installed and wildly out of date. Needs to brought up to code. In laws want to short cut w/ their own contractor. AL is fighting w/ there immigrant survival instincts.
Bike ride out for lunch and visited record shop. Found decent early pressing of Dave Brubeck Quartet Time Out to pick up. Reminded of my father listening to it again. Listend to Japan earlier record in shop and Vietnamese traditional folk music recorded in the 40's or 50's. Cake w/ friends at T&K's. Talked about baby on the way. Waited in line early for new local bakery. Asian American flavoring. Shared w/ group.

[5_10_26] - Test track made on newer LSDJ to test functions that have been added since LSDJ 3.x. Made a more complete additional 8 minute + song but, did not upload it for size. Attempting some more complicated experiements.
[808Faith&Breaks] - Generative track designed last week and edited this week. 808 and chopped samples. Built around clip launch follow actions, modulation, and beat repeating effects.

  • Week 19 - RPLKTR - Same Waters Twice
I welcome all critical feedback. Can relicense if you're interested, just ask.
Last-minute squad represent! A kind of a class jazz setup: a soloist, a bassist, a drummer, and keys. This loops perfectly and is meant to be looped. That's why there's no comeback of the initial theme.
190 BPM 6/8, F-minor. A fully analog CR-78 drum kit with my fav Analog Rytm. Opsix Bass. Pianoteq rhodes. Osmose lead. No AI used in any part of the process. For this year every cover art is a photo I took. Composed, recorded, and produced in Vancouver BC.

  • Week 19 - neon liminal - the island (labyrinth two?)
Trance music is a lot of work.
This turned out well but I feel there's a great deal of "affect" and much less "intention". I learned a lot though.
This is also a rare completely-ableton production from scratch, no gear, no M8. Main trance-pad was made in Pigments, the weirdo acid line is Acid V, and the bass is SublabXL which I don't use often enough. All the sound design by yours truly. I consider it a privilege that I can design a sound I want faster than I can find it browsing presets.
It's very big. The vocals are not where I wanted them to be, but that's another sound design challenge which is a little complex but we are getting there.
There's an interesting dialogue in EDM production, varying on genre, on "where do you start?". With the mood? the groove? the kick? the lead? what's more important, the character of the song, or the part that makes you move to it? There isn't an answer, but I'm always fascinated to see where it seems to "demand" attention when I'm diving into a new genre. Sub genre. Whatever. I grew up on trance, but this is fairly different than the trance of my youth.
Also this inevitably dips into cinema. How cinematic is too cinematic for dance music?
Also, repeating, this is a fuck ton of work for one week holy shit.

  • Week 19 - wangus - dunk tank: ur mom edition
op-1f """""""speedtrash"""""""" i started like 3 hours ago.
the op-1f built-in piano sample is nice.  more depth than the analogous og-1 sample (suitcase i think it was called?  also still a v nice sample).
CWO and fazer can be surprisingly nuanced, even though at first glance they're some of the least subtle of the FX.
