  • Week 19 - Nik Novo - A Car on the Street at Night
More of a soundscape than a musical number. I made this with the following scenario in my mind: You watch someone driving their car at night, but something is not right.

  • Week 19 - dreat - Trash Jig
This week I took Morisson's Jig, made it fit 7/4 (hence trash jig name - as in someone after one too many (probably just one) Irish trash cans trying to play jig/slip jig)
Mix... is there. It was fun, might try it again.
I'm not happy I quite lost original's vibe, but that might have been because of changing time sig

  • Week 19 - LainHiro - H02SES- Exile
This week I dusted off the Elektron Tonverk and finally sat down to learn the machine. Short and unapologetic about being loud! What you hear is the same arrangement doubled up and slightly out of phase. Some compression and Ableton magic was added to the doubled take. Seeing as how this an Elektron box with paramlocks and chance events I opted to record Tonverk twice instead of just copying and pasting. Bringing guitar studio tricks into my electronic music compositions :)
..and yes the device is still buggy. Main bug I encountered so far was the song mode completely ignoring the order sequence until it played a pattern all the way through. But once it got that hick up out of the way, each subsequent play though was fine.

  • Week 19 - LeBernd - Bad Intel
Followed Jeremys advice from this Red Means Recording Video and took a track to study and to "steal" from. So this track is a spiritual emulation of Weeklybeats very own Wangus - tmi.
I sat down with a notebook and scribbeled two entire pages of notes on how the track is structured, how it develops and little highlights that I noticed. I then used those notes as a blueprint to start developing a new track.
I don't think this holds up in comparison, but overall I'm still quite pleased with the track in a vacuum. It's 100% synthesized on the M8. The biggest weakspot so far is that I don't feel it's paced as well as tmi. For some reason, my groove doesn't carry as far without becoming repetitive and also doesn't seem to reach the same climax. I'm pretty happy with the sound design though. Overall it was a great learning experience and I can only recommend copying your favorite tracks as exercise!

  • Week 19 - Apticx - Spiritedness
Hey everyone! Its chiptune monday i guess. Experimented with a royalty free metal drumkit this week and i took a lot of time sequencing the drums on this one. Usually my drums are just a random 707 patch or something and i kinda wanted to break out on this one.
I used to play drums back when i was a kid so i still have some basic understanding in how they work and i tried my best to keep them „as realistic as possible while still sounding good“ as in not hitting 3 different things at the same time since drummers typically only have 2 hands.
Im also going to see Anamanaguchi live on wednesday so i kinda used my hype for the show as a motivator for this.
Overall im super pleased with the outcome. its one of the better ones so far at least for me.
Hope im not the only one enjoying it :)

  • Week 19 - KaZu - Fail Forward
    Hi everyone,
Well… what’s there to say about this week?
    Sometimes you lack inspiration.
Sometimes you can’t find the right sounds.
Sometimes you can spend countless hours on something, and it still won’t turn out the way you hoped.
Sometimes you just have to accept that failing is part of moving forward.
So yeah, here’s my track for this week.
Hopefully next week will be different ^^
    Thanks for listening.
    Cheers
    KaZu
P.S. As always, I’m really grateful for any constructive feedback, opinions, and so on :)
