  • Week 19 - theagainagain - trinidad dada dad
I'm pretty happy with the outcome of this track. I wasn't feeling super musical during the week, and then I kinda just forced myself to grab my bass on Friday, and things started flowing again. I did a couple fun arrangement techniques that made the flow of the song fun. I've also been digging back into my digital art stuff this week, and I made the below image using photoshop and an indie tool called dither boy.

  • Week 19 - Lizenn - 19th Daughter of the Cavendish Family
    Hey y'all !!
Not a very productive week but got myself together to make a small something. I got to play the latest entry in the Paranormasight series "The Mermaid's Curse" which immediately got me. Loved every moment and if you're into Visual Novels, mystery genre, fantasy (not heroic) and japanese culture, I can't say anything but go for it, it's a great game, even better than the first ! And in this game, a character's got a very lovely theme song with harpsichord, and I really wanted to make something inspired of that mood, kinda romantic and baroque (without really knowing the true rules, sorry for the mess it can be !) but also a bit mysterious ! Here we are ! It's missing a good transition between the two parts, a bit of orchestral stuff around it to give it more body and less annoyance and a (way) better harpsichord VST, but I had to do with the old synth one ! (because you know, starting your submission on the sunday afternoon is always a guarantee you won't be satisfied haha)
Thank y'all, lots of love, and great week everyone !!!

  • Week 19 - alonemusic - Waves Won't Hold You
This track was a tough one.. I started strong, popping my guitar into an open D tuning I picked up from American Football (as usual, check out that new LP too..), then popped a capo on it too..
Great fun layering up, but also being in a new tuning, it suddenly becomes tough to work out the ways to progress.. but hey, we are here to learn.
Today I set aside time to finish, but I've had a really busy week and weekend, and just felt pretty drained. My go to 'fuck it, go big' came in handy.
As has becoem a habit, the weird noises at the beginning come from me messing about with a new tape deck for a live noise show later this year and a Bastl Kastle. The bass line is just my guitar pitched down, so I hope it doesn't sound too shit.
I was pretty to the wire, so the art was done while playing Delta Green..
    Enjoy!

  • Week 19 - mzunguko - PARTS
Put this together late Saturday, was the first day I could fire up the studio as I was traveling this week. If you can't tell I love drums/percussion, a simple chord progression and a very simple bass line are the heart of this track. I did add a few other embellishments using UVI Falcon and trying out the new Zebra 3 (although just a couple tracks were enough to bring this 10 year old PC to its knees).
I hope you all had a great week.

  • Week 19 - skkmkk - Safeness
Just a small draft from my M8 memory card. Started it on late 2025, got lost in the scrapyard of unfinished tracks. Popped M8 up to see if there's anything to mangle for weeklybeats' sake, and this sounded quite promising. Kudos M8 for giving endless opportunities and giving super fast access to build rhythms and play with samples - FAST! Otherwise my 18 week streak would've been gone!
Very hasty mixdown, so not so solid soundwise imho, but the groove is there I guess. At least the drums on this one might be a BIG miss (too loud or something).
116 bpm chillness, so once again in that same territory. Drop a word or two if you liked it (or not :D).

  • Week 19 - speek - Crystal
I promise I didn't mean for it to be 7 minutes long.  What I started working on for this week is turning out to be a lot bigger than I initially planned, so I pulled up something half done from long ago and finished it, which ended up adding 3 1/2 more minutes.  It's starts out in C dorian mode and eventually moves to G# Dorian, which is cool.  Plato thought Dorian was one of the "proper" modes to use, so I wanted to try it out.  Also, the tempo changes a lot all over the place.  There are NO cymbals, crashes, hi-hats or even snares in this.  Just toms.
It has some transitions that I really like and are some of the best I've done, I think, but there's also an annoying "Game Of Thrones" sounding bit in the middle that is probably a big reason I abandoned it for so long.

  • Week 19 - HoolieBrown - Far from Yesterday
Hope everyone is having a good Mother's day (in the US, at least).
I built a Dann Huff style strat (sans midboost, I have 3 gain stages in my pedal chain, 2 are midboost) and had to do something late 80's and sparkly.  I recut the guitar parts in Reaper and sang the vocals into the DAW but all of this - as usual - was sequenced on the M8.  All Synth sounds are Native M8.
I was lazy on the vocal delay send and just left it on, normally would have automated to hit the gaps only, but it sounded cool so leaving it.
Guitar Solo - I accidentally played a David Gilmour solo, was gonna change it, then thought it sounded good and decided to keep it.  I'm testing out Scuffham S-Gear settings, but I just bought a new amp - Suhr Bella - expect to hear a lot of that moving forward once I get it dialed in.
Key Modulation!  Rickety but dramatic, santana blues bend over dominant to new key.  I hated it at first then it grew on me.
    Here's lyrics:
If not for my foolish pride
    I wouldn’t have nothing left
No stones to haul nothing to cut away
    If anyone’s on my side
    like anyone could forget
or roll me in to some yesterday
Be myself when it’s all that I got, I been looking to find my way
It doesn’t matter now, we’re so far from yesterday
    Whenever the lights get low
and ever the night grows long
and shadows linger on shape I’m in
I’m not gonna wish I know
I won’t have to right some wrong
Or dream about what could have been

  • Week 19 - MAXELL XL3 - waiting too
I ended up with 40 tracks in this project. It started with a guitar loop running through multiple effect pedals, which allowed me to manipulate and shape the sound in different ways. Later, I added violin parts and a few piano tones. To create a more orchestral atmosphere, I also included clarinet and cello layers.
By Sunday evening, time was running short, so I wasn’t able to give the piece a proper structure. In the end, I uploaded it as a dreamy, melancholic soundscape, mainly as an opportunity to practice instruments that I don’t get to play very often.
