  • Week 15 - walternormand - Mustard
Some weeks you just gotta hit a mediocre guitar noodle and move on with your day.
Playing about with a mk.gee style ableton rack that switches to a distorted reverb above a certain volume threshold.
It's fun texturally, but my guitar chops are lacking to really exploit it musically.

  • Week 15 - source1st - Indie Type ish (Prod. Source1st)
Started off with a hi-hat loop that was really swingy So I had to shift the kick and snare over bit to fit. Then came up with some chords and used kontakt VST for organ. Then thru some splice samples in to compliment the rest of the track using the same key. Lastly, played a bassline at the very end. Enjoy.

  • Week 15 - Mulkaccino - Deep Space Signals
No drums. I just wanted the endless pattern to stick with you.
Inspiration: None. But I feel like the cello sounds give me Zoe Keating vibes (though, my god, she has so much more talent than I do it's not even appropriately fair to compare) and the ending is like a grunge garage band ending.

  • Week 15 - sugar.export - leave me alone edit. (ft. RUBII)
I really loved the original song but wish it was longerrr. Then as I kept listening to it I could hear how a sidechained four on the floor kick would really vibe well with the track soo I done made this edit.
    Production breakdown:
Stem splitting the song to have vox
Finding the right chords to play via piano plugin
    Making new patch in serum
Taking whole file to maschine for drums
    Bass in maschine too
Importing back into Logic and then arranging for drops
    Adding risers and sound fx
    Mixing and mastering a little

  • Week 15 - Earp Lug - Cosmic Roar
This week I had some dental surgery where they cut little pieces of my cheek and stuffed them into parts of my gum. It hurt a lot and I'm on a liquid diet for the next two weeks.
About an hour after I got home from the pharmacist I made this 37 minute jam where I played my MicroKorg into a looper pedal that went into an overdrive pedal that went into a reverb pedal that went into a harmonizer pedal. The loop was about six minutes long, and because it was the first in the chain, it recorded the raw signal that was then modified by all the other pedals.
I repeated the loop a few times, changing different parameters of each pedal, and I also recorded some additional synth stuff into a secondary track. In premier pro I synchronised all the loops and secondary tracks. Then I chose the parts that would work the best together in tandem and animated the keyframes of their volume so they would come in and out at different times throughout the track. I panned each track to take up different parts of the stereo space of the song as my main mixing tool to try to keep things from overwhelming eachother.
I showed the track to my buddy Ryan who said I should add a four on the floor or some other drum beat to keep the track more interesting. It wasn't really the vibe I was going for with this one, but I did record a little feedback loop on my Monotron Delay that had a sort of repeating percussive quality that slowly morphs into noise. I reversed the track and repeated it a few times throughout the track, animated its levels, and panned it to fill gaps in the stereo space, and called it Good Enough.
For the video,  I recorded some Video Wizardry in my office setup with a camera pointed at a TV that ran through a video mixer, some color modifiers, and some circuit-bent hardware. I recorded for the entirety of my original music performance, and in the original edit I cut between different parts of the video. I felt like it lacked cohesion, so I then made a second edit that only took one part of the recording session that was pretty consistent and matched the music for the entirety of the new, shorter song. A little over halfway throught the song, I then overlaid just the colors of another part of the video session, as the image just stays kinda greenish yellow for a long period, and I wanted to make the experience a bit more visually engaging without sacraficing the hypnotic quality of a single-take abstract piece.

  • Week 15 - NickLong - Snow White Testarossa
    Lyrics
    Snow White Testarossa
    No Socks Penny Loafers
He just stepped of the plane from San Tropez
    Ray Ban Aviators
    Chinos Padded Shoulders
He Makes me feel like I'm the only girl in here
    He makes my yacht rock
My jan hammer and my moet pop
he knows what a fool believes
He wears his gucci with rolled up sleeves
    Treats me like a lady
    Dressed up like I'm Sade
Wrote me a solo on his CS-80
    goes like....
    MASSIVE SYNTH SOLO
    Took me to Hawaii
    Mustache like Magnum PI
He proposed while we were fighting crime
    He said
    You make my yacht rock
In red stilettos and a feather cut
I'm not a fool to believe
I wore my wedding dress with rolled up sleeves
Geoff Bridges is Rockwell Steele - Part time bartender at Bongo's Tiki Lounge and synth player in the house band Boogaloo Joe (Played by the real life members of Toto)
Fights crime in his Testarossa Spider. Lives on a super yacht in Marina Del Rey in LA and wears nothing but Gucci even though he has no obvious source of income other than his part time bar job..
Rosanna Arquette is Alexis Silke - Pulitser prize winning investigative journalist and part time swimwear model.
Together they are the crime fighting duo Silke and Steele.
Bongo - Dean Stockwell  owner of Bongo's Tiki Lounge and creator of PORCARO (Patchable, Oscillator, Routing, Crime, Analysis, Reasoning Operating-system) - A self aware computer and modular synthesizer which they use to fight crime.
Their main plot of the show relates to a drug triangle between LA, Hawaii and Miami leading to the show having regular crossovers with Magnum PI and Miami Vice.
Kenny Logins plays - Santino the drug gang enforcer and Christoper Cross plays the shadowy "El Conquistador" the kingpin of the whole organisation.
Eventually when the ratings slip PORCARO is downloaded into a futuristic hovercraft deigned by knight industries and he becomes "Hover Cop" although many people feel the show jumped the shark at this point.
    Music Breakdown
This started as a lofi indie / hiphop track, with some weird modal mixture chords.
    A: Am7 -> Cm9 -> Bm7 -> Fmaj7 -> Am7 -> Cm9 -> Bm7 -> E7
    B: Dmaj9 -> Gmaj9 -> Dmaj9 -> F#m7 -> E7
When I was trying to work out what they were called Gemini commented they were "Yacht Rock" chords which set me off on the lyrical theme and accounts for why the lyrics don't really match the musical style.
Musically it's very simple: Easy drummer for the beat with a very damped 70's type kit. Moog Bass from The Legend, Prophet 5 keys from Repro 5, Arturia Yangtze for the instrumental lead riff,
The solo is a tribute to Rosanna, but the Purdy shuffle on the drums sounds a bit weird at the higher tempo.
Depite declaring it to be on a CS-80 I found it didn't sound right for the Rosanna style solo. Looking up the original it's apparently a layered CS-80, Moog, Prophet and Jupiter (The 80's huh :D ) I used an Oberheim via Obsession as that always screams 80's synth solo to me.
Vocals are once again Synthesizer V Solaria, she makes an excellent Alexis Silke.
