This week, I collaborated with Coldsushi! I've been a huge fan of his future bass/hyper pop/dariacore productions on here all year, and sometime maybe in March I reached out to him for a collab. We decided to try doing a version of an exquisite corpse-style collab, where we'd work on half a track, swap bundles on Tuesday, work on the other half of each-other's tracks, and then swap M8 bundles (projects) on the weekend for final edits. We also agreed on building up two hyperpop/future-bass tracks. This was a pretty challenging way to collab (compared to doing a single track for the week) because we still needed to produce a whole track and while swapping songs midway through. I'm super glad we did this and really grateful to Coldsushi for being game to do this and share his knowledge with me <3.
This is the first time I've ever tried to make music collaboratively with anyone, so it was extremely vulnerable and intimidating! I'm super glad I did this though because I learned so much from Sushi's work and approach to composing tracks. It's also super rewarding to share art with ppl. Weeklybeats is such a nice and supportive environment for this stuff, and I'm glad to be making music on here with y'all. (Also hit me up if you want to work on a track together!)

For the first half of my track, I attempted my interpretation of dariacore. After watching some tutorial videos and listening to a lot of hyperpop tracks, the general vibe I got was aim for "dry" and dense sounds w/ a lot of sampling and rendering+running through OTT. I threw together the chordy sections in the intro, the pad-like sections, and the dense chordy sections at the outtro. The bundle I sent to Coldsushi had the rough shape and texture of a track, but I didn't have time to come up with more melodic ideas.
The bundle I got from Coldsushi at the first swap was about a minute of pure joy, atmospheric future bass with a delicate melody and well-mixed sounds. It was inspiring and extremely intimidating :). It took me a while to decide what direction to take it. I decided to build up a mirror section that was more abrasive and aggro to contrast with the first half. It was a struggle and I learned a lot and feel pretty happy with the result. Go listen to Coldsushi's track if you want to hear what we cooked up!
After that, we swapped bundles on Sunday and I switched to working on the dariacore track that I sent to sushi at the start of the week (this is the track you're listening to here). He changed up the intro, beefed up the drums, added a whole middle section with a sick drop. It's wild hearing his distinct style applied to the structure that I sent, and seeing my sounds get remixed. He gave my sketch a whole narrative arc with a lot of life and movement. Most of my edits on Sunday were touch up mixing and making sure more of the sounds came through in the busy sections.
