Perhaps this is a concept beat (not a concept album) in that the aim was retelling my week.
- Monday: The chords and the progression was decided as well as half the lyrics
- Tuesday: I was already starting a bit of recording (the intro), but my daughter wasn’t happy (she stole my notebook with the lyrics, fed the bookmark to the dog and started to cry)
- Wednesday: I got sick for 3 days with a migraine
In the middle of that was some attempt a finishing the song. Adding the guitars, trying to sort out the GarageBand drums, adding the solo, re-recording the lyrics (and dropping the bits where I was coughing). It was a tough one.
My idea really was starting off as a folk song and then moving into a Steven Wilson-esque piece, but I’m not Guthrie Govan or Nick Beggs either. So, I attempted this knowing there were gaps but not giving up until the whole thing was etched in idea at least.
I can already see my wall slowly trembling until @dreat bursts out of the bricks telling me that the instruments are floating :D which I know. Just kidding.
I believe it’s my longest submission on weeklybeats and honestly with the proper direction, time and tools, this would be cool.
Also the iPhone starts really to be a compelling tool for me even for recording and mastering. All the acoustic guitars and the lyrics are recorded directly with its microphone and the rest with an iRig plugged into the usb-c port. Mastering is done track by track again. I’m discovering how powerful can be the AUv3 plugins.
This track wouldn’t have happened when I started this year (which now makes me realise I recorded the equivalent of 2 albums this year already).
