just mixed my first drumkit recoding from a few months ago - was recorded with only one mic but I can't remember if it was the SM57 or if it was directly recorded into the built in ipad mic... either way I'm happier with the sound than my 2 mic drum recordings lol :D

I found the opening riff in the idea vault from 2023, I thought maybe it could kick off a low effort instrumental thingy, but uhh... yeah, this happened, whatever it is. I have been super tired and stressed of late, this one feels very much done on autopilot and I'm not sure how I feel about it because I hit a wall halfway through and rushed the rest so it didn't end up how I imagined it when the ideas started forming, but it is what it is.

Ah, this one actually started pretty early in the week and was able to steep properly. Banged out the main riff and drums into the general structure, then it was all filling in the blanks, with a little trip to "Butt Rock" territory. Most fun I've had on a weekly beat in a long time!

Had a hectic week so gave myself a break, and just did this late on Sunday. Happy enough with the result.

Some mistakes from live playing still in there but was doing this quickly and I think they all add to the story.

The main chords come from the Nord 2 which has been a while since i last used it. Will probably explore that a bit more in the coming weeks.

Something, in space. Not a week for music it seems, I've been doing other things (mostly writing) that took my creativity away, and so... I was staring at a blank music sheet for a very long time. As Always I didn't want to make something lazy  so I fought with my brain for a long time (so much energy consumed for nothing aaaaaaa) until I just ended up making something lazy. It's ok, can't do a masterpiece every week. I hope next week I'll at least have some fun doing it :DD (But I'm forcing things so much and it's so bad to do so haha...But man the streak, the pride and ego...)

Fast trance/electro to play WipEout to, I think? A bit of a weird one this week. It's certainly a bright wall of sound. And at around 160bpm it's also fairly high-speed. With some glorious arpeggio action, if I do say so myself. 

As always with WeeklyBeats, there are some things that I would have done differently... if I had more time. But that's just the way of things. I did have a lovely time playing with my Korg MS20m again. I don't use that one nearly enough. But I thought it would pair well with my recently purchased Behringer clone of the Korg MonoPoly. And it does! They're wildly different synths, with very different characters. They compliment each other nicely.

This one was a failed electro attempt that ended up in a more "drum machine inspired house" place after I dumped the original bassline. In the end the bass is still doo doo, but there are some decent melodic concepts here. gforce SEM had an arping lead patch called "Depeche Piano". Of course that had to get used and it led to a fun call and response element. It kind of falls flat after a while though. I need to crank out some ad lib variations to keep it from getting boring.

I think there are some good bones in this. I just need to make it more interesting in places. It will rise or fall on getting a better bass concept going. I was also pleased to sneak in that extra drum layer that comes in around the midpoint. It's an ancient thing and old friend sent over for feedback on mid-2000s-ish. I scooped out a bit with pro-q4 to leverage it as a tops layer.
