#WDRadio Week of Sept 21, 2025: When desperate believers sold everything they owned to follow self-proclaimed prophets promising salvation, they discovered a horrifying truth: the line between divine vision and madness was written in poison, prison bars, and the hangman's noose. From miracle eggs inscribed with holy messages to a 65-year-old virgin claiming to carry the Messiah, this is the disturbing pattern of religious mania that swept through the 19th century, leaving thousands betrayed and broken in its wake.
==========
HOUR ONE: Claiming to audibly hear from God either makes you crazy, or a prophet – and only time can tell which is true. If you claim things are going to happen because God says they will – and then they don’t happen – that means you’re cray cray, and a false prophet. That also makes your followers a bunch of dupes. Sadly, the 19th and 20th centuries were full of crazy false prophets with mindless sheep worshipping them. (Creating False Prophets) *** Headline: “Exciting Wake!” When you see the words “exciting” and “wake” in the same headline, you can make a guess that someone is not resting in peace! (Exciting Wake)
==========
HOUR TWO: “The Witching Hour of 3AM” *** You don’t have to go to a cemetery or haunted house to experience the supernatural. You don’t need to drive a cursed road to encounter a ghost. Sometimes the paranormal takes place on military bases. (The Military And The Mysterious) *** The corpse of a murderer winds up doing advertising for a drug store. (The Murder of Maggie Walker) *** In 1922, an otherwise unremarkable farmhouse in Novia Scotia was the site of alleged poltergeist activity which made headlines all over Canada and the United States. A poltergeist that liked to set fires. (The Fire Spook of Caledonia Mills)
==========
SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: A smitten fan falls in love with a talented actress, and convinces himself she loves him in return. This sounds very much like a story out of today’s entertainment magazines – but this tale of unrequited love took place in the 1880’s. (The Lunatic James Dougherty) *** The terrifying Aswang is the most feared creature of Philippine folklore—and with good reason. I’ll tell you why. (The Deadly Aswang) ** Reports have been coming in from people claiming to see full-sized African lions not in the Savannah or in the wilderness – but in North America. But is there any truth to the their claims? (Phantom Lions of North America)

Harvey Crane woke up at the edge of a world that shouldn't exist—with a pink sky, triangular trees, and a beautiful woman who could erase his spaceship with a wave of her hand. But when she begs him to wake up and claims to be his wife back on Earth, Harvey must face a terrible question: is this strange paradise his new reality, or is he still trapped in his ship, lost forever in the moment he broke the light barrier?

“World Edge” by Jack Egan, originally published in Amazing Stories, November 1962

IN THIS EPISODE: If you ever missed death by an inch, and you believe you had a little help, you may be one of many people with guardian angel stories. Even for nonbelievers, a brush with real guardian angels is an encounter with the uncanny, proof of entities in the world beyond your line of sight. That's why real guardian angel stories, such as the ones I will share in this episode, are so creepy; even if it ends as a positive experience, it leaves you with a lot of lingering questions. Most people believe real guardian angels protect people from harm, but that doesn't make them less unnerving. After all, if angels truly are real, then so are the demonic forces they seek to protect people from.

When the Russian schooner Demeter drifted into Whitby harbor with its dead captain lashed to the wheel and its entire crew missing, the ship's log revealed a horrifying truth: something ancient and evil had been hunting them one by one across the dark waters. The final entries, written in the captain's trembling hand, chronicle the crew's descent from unease to terror as they realize their cargo of fifty earth-filled boxes conceals a predator that feeds in the night and cannot be killed.

Deep in the forests between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, witnesses have reported encounters with a seven-foot-tall bipedal wolf creature that the Shawnee claim is the spirit of an ancient shapeshifting shaman. From French trappers in the 1700s to college students in the 1970s, the Beast of the Land Between the Lakes has left a trail of mutilated livestock, terrified campers, and unexplained disappearances that local authorities allegedly work hard to keep quiet.

Fifteen percent of humanity carries blood that kills its own offspring when mothers and babies don't match, a deadly trait that appeared suddenly 40,000 years ago and clusters mysteriously among the Basque people who speak Earth's only language with no known origin. Ancient texts worldwide describe beings from the sky who interbred with humans to create giants with six fingers and double rows of teeth, and disturbingly, people with Rh-negative blood today report the exact physical anomalies and electromagnetic sensitivities these texts attribute to the Nephilim's descendants.

(Your Brain Remembers the Future) *** A Venezuelan specter carrying his father’s bones has haunted the Llanos plains for over 170 years, and El Silbon’s whistle keeps growing softer as death approaches. (The Whistling Demon of Venezuela) *** A blood type that kills babies, defies genetic logic, and appears in ancient texts might hold clues to humanity’s strangest chapter.
