“THE WINEVILLE CHICKEN COOP MURDERS” and 9 More Terrifying True Stories! #WeirdDarkness
You won’t find Wineville, California anywhere on a map. The southern California town certainly existed, although it abruptly “vanished” in 1930, replaced suddenly by Mira Loma. What had happened was the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders – crimes so heinous that the townspeople couldn’t bear to be associated with the name “Wineville” any longer.  The case of the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders is filled with so many bizarre twists, turns, and testimonies that even movie screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski, who was investigating the murders for a film based on the events, could hardly believe it was true. After reading the story in the Los Angeles city archives, he figured, “This can’t be real… This has to be a mistake.”
IN THIS EPISODE: Mysterious, loud booming noises have been heard all over the country without explanation. But now it has become even creepier, as some men in black have been poking around asking questions and interviewing witnesses. (Men In Black and Unexplained Booms) *** A convicted murderer and suspected serial killer lurks in the frames of the horror classic, The Exorcist. (The Real Life Killer Who Appeared In The Exorcist) *** A mysterious old man shows up at the scene of two auto accidents – twenty years apart! (My Guardian Angel) *** The older citizens in Durango, Mexico tell of a frightening entity known as the La Ilorona. (La Ilorona) *** A woman tells of seeing a dead relative on her way out to do her weekly grocery shopping. (Doppelganger, Ghost, or Imagination?) *** Drenched in sun and perched above the glistening water of Tampa Bay, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge doesn’t look haunted. However, appearances can be deceiving. (Tampa’s Haunted Sunshine Skyway Bridge) *** The rapid decline of traffic on Route 66 sounded the death knell for hundreds of businesses – including Diamonds Restaurant. But that hasn’t stopped the undead from continuing to frequent the place. (Ghosts of Diamonds Restaurant) *** Die without being married and you could be doomed to haunt the world forever – at least according to an ancient Chinese custom. And thus, “ghost weddings” became a reality. (Ghost Marriage) *** What was intended as a romantic getaway under the stars turned into a frightful getaway from a horrible sound. (Unnatural Sound On Mt. Saint Helens) *** A string of murders in Wineville, California caused the town to change its name – and inspired an Angelina Jolie movie. (The Wineville Chicken Coop Murders)

“THE LYNCHING OF LEO FRANK” and 2 More Gruesome, Horrifying True Stories! #WeirdDarkness
Leo Frank took his terrible fate with a quiet dignity. As the blind-fold was placed over his eyes he asked only that his wedding ring be given to his wife. Watched on by Atlanta's great and good, he was then hung to death from the branch of a tree. How this mild-mannered young Jewish businessman met his brutal end is one of America's most disputed and intractable mysteries. The only uncontested fact is that a 13-year-old girl was murdered; everything else remains tainted by a shameful legacy of racism and anti-Semitism that continues to cloud the case even 100 years on.
IN THIS EPISODE: On July 8, 1878, one of the strangest murder plots in Pennsylvania history began with the purchase of four insurance policies – and ended with a lingering spirit that still haunts a local churchyard to this day. (The Blue-Eyed Six Murder) *** She was a housewife, who turned killer – then vanished without a trace. Now, over 40 years later, Sharon Kinne’s whereabouts remain unknown. (Sharon Kinne: The Murdering Housewife) *** Leo Frank was imprisoned and lynched for the murder of Mary Phagan – but was he truly guilty of the crime? (The Lynching of Leo Frank)

“THE PENTAGON PLANS FOR A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE” and 5 More Creepy True Stories! #WeirdDarkness
IN THIS EPISODE: The idea of a zombie apocalypse has been a fascinating topic of horror films, television, and print ever since George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” in 1968. But it’s complete fiction, of course. Right? If so, why does the Pentagon have a plan for it, just in case? (CONOP 8888: The Pentagon’s Plan For a Zombie Apocalypse) *** He appears as a man or skeleton or described as a shadow, often atop a cart for collecting the dead. Other versions have it that he is the first dead person of the year, charged with collecting the others' souls before he can go to the afterlife. He is said to drive a large, black coach pulled by four black horses; accompanied by two ghostly figures on foot. He is known as Ankou. (Ankou: Deliverer Of Souls To The Underworld) *** They were described as flat-nosed with wide nostrils; thick eyebrows and sunken eyes.  Their mouths were of ‘prodigious width’ with thick lips and prominent jaws.  The Australian Aborigines regarded them as another people entirely – they called them the Yowies. (The Australian Yowie) *** Shadow people seem to be a growing phenomenon. But what are they, what do they want? And most importantly – how do you get away from one? (What You Should Know About Shadow People) *** A little girl’s imaginary friend appears to her mother as shadows in the basement. (My Imaginary Friend) *** The story of the Detroit “Occult Murders” is one of the strangest in American crime. It’s a story of black magic, murder, and a clever and enterprising man who came to Detroit with a strange dream. (The Detroit Occult Murders)

“HIDDEN HISTORY OF THE SKULL AND CROSSBONES” #WeirdDarkness
Whenever we see a pirate ship on television, cinema or in comic books we also see an extremely ancient symbol - the skull and crossbones. This however, was not a symbol of death – at least not in the beginning - but instead it profoundly symbolized life in so many aspects. Many researchers of Templar and Masonic history have pointed out the links between this symbol and the one used by the Knights Templar on their ships. Sow how did this enigmatic image of the skull and crossbones become deeply entrenched in the minds of millions around the world as the symbol of piracy, death and even poison? Author Philip Gardiner gives us the history of the skull and crossbones.

“THE LAKE CLUB GHOST” and 3 More Terrifying But True Stories! #WeirdDarkness
IN THIS EPISODE: Due to a murderous plot, 11-year old Terry Jo Duperrault spent 84 grueling hours alone at sea until she was rescued. (Orphaned At Sea) *** Moving into your own place alone for the first time is often an exciting moment in a young adult’s life – but it can also be a bit nerve-racking. But then, it probably doesn’t help if you move into a place that is haunted. (My Closet Door) *** The true story of Rasputin is full of both truths and lies. Was he a controversial mystic with healing powers, or an evil or misunderstood man? Maybe he was a little of both. (Rasputin) *** The Lake Club in Springfield, Illinois had its heyday in 1940s and 50s – and not even a lingering ghost could stop the parties. (The Lake Club Ghost)
