Mike and Dan kick off Season Four with their first actual former Islander, as defenseman Deron Quint joins them to discuss his five games with the team during their 2007 stretch run, his long hockey career in the NHL and overseas and his new second career. Quint was brought over from Europe by Garth Snow with the Islanders in desperate straights to make the playoffs. What followed was an incredible run that Quint remembers well and fondly as one of the most fun times of his hockey life. Before and after that short stay, the New Hampshire native experienced a ton, like setting records in his rookie season with the Winnipeg Jets, moving with the team to a new market in Phoenix, uniting with the expansion Blue Jackets, and winning championships in Germany and accolades in Russia. Quint tells us how his perspective changed over the years and why his Islanders time is still so important to him. Along the way we hear stories about some of the stars he played with including Jeremy Roenick, Alexei Zhamnov, Teppo Numminen, Evgeny Kuznetsov and... Igor Shesterkin? We can't get away from that guy.
Our eternal thanks to Deron for coming on with us and sharing his stories. We couldn't have asked for a better first ever Islander, and his generosity and memory (for games that happened in 2007 and beyond) is incredible. This is just the first of a whole season of great Weird Islanders coming up so don't miss them.
