  • #10: Scaling Your Product-Based Business with Lalese Stamps

If you're a product-based business, then you know that scaling can be a bit tricky. You may have hit a point where you're maxed out on your current resources and don't know how to take your business to the next level. That's where Lalese Stamps comes in. In this episode, Lalese shares a scalable solution that will help your business grow without risking quality or customer satisfaction.

Tune in to this episode and learn more about how to build a product-based company and how to scale a product-based company.

    Highlights:

06:22 – Authenticity is really important because I really care very little for what people think about me as a person. There’s a layer of people wanting to purchase your product, which is the hard part between business and creativity.

09:39 – The way that I’m getting through it now is just taking it day by day. I used to be such a planner. I used to plan ahead a lot of months in advance but now I`m at a stage where I`m just taking it day by day and creating little lists for myself that are manageable and I can actually maintain.

18:15 – I reached the point where I had to put my foot down and say no longer. We just need to work smarter, not harder.

36:22 – My biggest insight is that no matter what you do, you have to do it with good intentions, you have to really put yourself out there and be kind no matter what the circumstances are.

12:31 – I’ve always wanted to do what I can to give and to help people, that’s kind of what I’ve always wanted to do to change people's lives.

19:42 – The people that have just come out to help and just so selflessly just want to help have been incredible. I say my family but also the strangers in the community.

  • #8: Managing Control and Self-Discipline with Stasia Patwell

It's hard to control everything. Especially when it comes to our own lives and our own bodies. We can try to diet and work out, but sometimes things happen that we can't predict or control. So, what do we do then? How do we manage our feelings of frustration and disappointment, especially when it seems like everyone else is getting ahead? In today’s episode Kiley talks with Stasia Patwell. She offers up helpful tips and advice on how to take back control of your life, your body, and your mind. Whether you're struggling with weight management or just feeling like you need a little more organization in your day-to-day life.

Stasia shares how changing her mindset affects her body and life. She also shares her background and how she started her business “School of Thot”. Tune in to this episode and hear more life changing advice from our amazing guest Stasia Patwell.

    Highlight:

05:07 – When I started focusing on changing my mindset and forcing myself to say nice things to myself, that's when I saw a huge change in my body and a huge change in my life.

13:14 – I felt like I really had to keep those two parts separate because I wanted people to think of me as a comedian not as a trainer.

19:07 – It works if you keep coming back to it so whatever makes you come back to it then go to that. My shit talking gets you through the class and keeps you coming back for more. Then it's going to work.

29:33 – I’m not saying I’m perfect all the time but for me it is so good to help other women and to help them feel stronger and hotter and more successful.

  • #7: Building Your Business to Support Your Life with Drew McLellan

Today Kiley invites Drew McLellan to the show. Drew has worked in advertising for over 25 years and started his own agency in 1995 after a five-year stint at Y&R. He also owns and runs Agency Management Institute (AMI), serving more than 250 small to mid-sized agencies annually, helping them build agencies that are sustainable, scalable, and profitable. Drew often appears in Forbes, Entrepreneur Magazine, New York Times, AdAge, CNN, Businessweek, and many others.

Drew shares his travel journey around the country and his thoughts about life-work balance and what strategies work for his business. Tune in to this episode and hear more interesting insights from Drew.

    Highlights:

    07:27 – I don’t believe in life-work balance, I don’t think that exists, I don't think it's as beautiful as the books and the charts say. I think it's about life-work blend.

    11:11 – Life work-balance suggests that there is a cut-off.

14:41 – I think the biggest privilege for me of owning my own business is that I only work with people that I like. If I don’t like somebody then I don’t take them as a client.

20:53 – Most agency owners underpay themselves, under reward themselves thinking that there is a big payday at the end that they're going to sell the business and they're going to have a lot of money.

45:42 – I very much want people to remember me as someone who wasn't in it for the money and who cares very much, genuinely and deeply cares for the people that I work with and the people that I work for.

Andy is the Co-Founder of Orbit Media Studios, an award-winning digital agency in Chicago, IL. In the last 20 years, he has provided digital marketing advice to over 1000+ businesses and is the author of Content Chemistry, the illustrated handbook for content marketing.

In this episode, Kiley talks with Andy about the importance of building relationships, keeping focused on working with clients who are a good fit, and Andy’s greatest insight between life and entrepreneurship. He also shares the impact he wants to make and the legacy he’d like to leave behind.

    Highlights:

05:55  Content Marketing is an opportunity to share expertise and create awareness, but it is so much more effective when it’s content plus connections, better yet, content plus connections plus community.

09:10  That’s what content does. It makes you relevant to a broader audience so you’re top of mind for the person when they need that exact thing that you happen to do.

09:57  Four or five times a week, I’m writing these really detailed emails introducing two people that don’t know each other, hoping that it’s a useful connection for both of them.

16:54  You have to make choices. Life’s about choices. There are so many opportunities for all of us all the time. It’s almost frightening how free we are to pursue so many interesting things.

19:32  You just evolve what you love and then you get to enjoy optimizing the systems, or improving them, or coaching the people who work within the system to get what they want out of it.

  • #5: Being a Vulnerable Leader with Jackie Hermes

In this episode, Kiley talks with Jackie Hermes of Accelity Marketing. Jackie bootstrapped her company from 0 to 7 figures with no partners and zero funding. Jackie shares what she has learned with her fellow entrepreneurs and marketers in a variety of formats, from keynote speeches to tactical breakout presentations.

Jackie shares her business challenges, experiences in the pandemic, and what strategy she used to face it. Tune in to this episode to learn more about Jackie Hermes.

    Highlights:

05:21 – I think that I had to get even more honest with my employees during Covid and I was kind of forced to. We lost 40% of our business in the 1st two weeks of Covid.

08:56 – We are doing this as fairly as possible so there were some people that had more work and some people that had less work and we’re all going to take this hit together.

16:14 – I definitely think that being transparent shows people that you do respect and value them. And most companies don’t care.

22:10 – I think we assign positive intent to ourselves and to our own actions and we give ourselves passes for the way that we communicate and the way that we behave because we have good intentions but then we do not do the same thing for other people.

35:14 – I think it's important to show up the same way everywhere and be the same person everywhere.

    Highlight:

07:22 – One of my biggest business lessons is that I realized very quickly that you can’t let your company define who you are. The company is a part of who you are but it's not who you are.

15:10 – I think the lesson there is how you come back to losing yourself in your company. As an owner, it is to make sure that is on purpose so when your company sells, you already know what you want to do in the next activity of your life because you understand your purpose.

25:34 – My purpose is, I exist to drive significant experiences for other people, so I love experiences for myself.

31:01 – I’m passionate about making business owner’s lives better.  I’m passionate about helping business owners build a business that is better today and transferable or sellable whenever the time comes.

  • #3: Being Unapologetically Yourself with Pia Silva

In this episode, Kiley invited Pia Silva, Founder of No BS Agency Mastery where she teaches small branding agencies how to increase profits and freedom without hiring employees, using her intensive model. She's a TEDX Speaker, a Forbes contributor, a podcast host and author of Badass your Brand.

    Highlights:

02:51 – I think this whole journey has been me trying things out and deciding to own it and be it. I think that is actually why I eventually felt comfortable owning or calling myself a badass.

07:41 – Saying you're honest is a really lame way to say you're honest. How can you be honest? Be honest. How can you be transparent? Be transparent. Show your price.

16:07 – I would have thought that there were other people that could've done this better for me and I should hire them and now I know this turn around. Even if it doesn't work out it's the best thing that you can do because the lessons are worth every penny.

21:10 – At this point I'm looking for a No more than I’m looking for a Yes because I only want to work with people in my agency and in my program who are a perfect fit, who are going to have an amazing experience, who are going to get an incredible result and I know what those people look like.

42:42 – My big passion and goal is really empowering very small micro businesses to learn how to be really excellent and profitable.

    Highlights

02:10 – I remember my husband told me that “what are you doing, you can’t employ someone” and I didn't know I was drowning in emails. It was the best decision that I made for the whole 1st year of my business.

11:36 – One thing that I’ve always struggled with is email, it takes me forever to get back to people. These days I have a great V.A. who is in there to respond to my emails.

19:59 – I don’t say thank you for your help anymore, I say thank you for being an amazing partner who does their fair share. It is wonderful to have someone who can take all of the administrative parts of raising kids.

26:43 – There's a system that sometimes we use. The 6 T’s of delegations. Things that are tiny, time consuming, teachable, you’re terrible at and time sensitive.
