What’s up folks. Justin here with a quick Sidequest reflecting on the previous year and how Spider-man pwned every bit of it.
Your friendly neighborhood wall crawler was present in all facets of entertainment last year. Comics, live-action film, animated film, TV, and video games. Yet, never has the character done it so well in a year. 2018 was truly the year of the Spider.
If you want to check out Justin’s original comments on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film, you can check out Episode 20 where we cover it in the preamble to Solo.
Into the Spider-Verse was highly praised and has a massive 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As was the PS4 game (check out scores on IGN).
Why am I mentioning that? Mainly because my search engine optimization tool told me I needed more outbound links! That, and it will also justify my praise.
Enjoy the episode doomers, and Atul and I will be coming back soon with more content.

Just in time for the Holidays comes a rousing adventure film that takes a hero on a quest across the globe to find an ancient artifact. No, Indiana Jones hasn’t returned, the film is Aquaman. The newest film in the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa and Amber Heard.
Director James Wan of “The Conjuring” fame brings a large scale world to life in a 2.5 hour adventure. Aquaman does not just expand on the Atlantis mythos introduce in Justice League, but completely introduces brand new environments, characters, and cultures. The movie is certainly dense, but given the exceptional pacing it keeps moving and seldom leaves the audience bored.
During the episode, we discuss the Haka Jason Momoa and friends have been performing during the press tour. Haka is a form of posture dance from Māori culture. The dance serves several functions in Māori culture, however the most popular example is when New Zealand Sports teams perform before a game. The performances are intense and opponents can be caught off guard if they are not expecting it (see Team USA’s reaction below).
The holiday season is now upon us and Atul and Justin would like to extend warm wishes and hopes for an excellent 2019. We’ll be back next year with more episodes, content, and DOOM!
Cheers!

Back in 2017, the harbingers reported on Atul’s experience at Fantastic Fest and a certain Christmas-zombie-musical was among his favorites. That film was Anna and the Apocalypse and since then it has been picked up by Orion Pictures for Distribution! This delightful film features the walking dead, charming performances, and excellent musical numbers.
Anna and the Apocalypse is based on a short film by Ryan McHenry which won a BAFTA award in 2010. McHenry and Alan McDonald then developed the screenplay for the feature, however McHenry tragically passed away before the film could begin shooting. Director John McPhail stepped in for the late McHenry and did a fantastic job with the direction of the film.
Atul, and his lovely wife, hung out at the Alamo Drafthouse with McPhail and some of the cast. McPhail showed up to the premiere in a sweet Green Lantern shirt, so it was certainly fate that Atul and McPhail would be sharing a pint or two at the bar.
Speaking of unconventional takes on festive classics, Atul also mentioned a holiday short featuring the Predator that will debut on Comedy Central with Bojack Horseman on December 19th, 2018. You can catch Bojack Horseman at 10:30p and the short will air during that time.

It’s about time to get in the Christmas spirit and Netflix is unleashing a slew of holiday films to assist. Most of them are cut from the same mold however one stands out amongst the others to the harbingers. The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell as a not-so-jolly St. Nick. Russell’s Santa Clause is cut from a different cloth than his predecessors. He’s fun, endearing, and has a twinkle in his eye and a complex about his weight.
All in all, The Christmas Chronicles is a light and fun romp through several countries and US cities but is 100% carried by Mr. Kringle. When Russell is absent from the picture, the film is less fun/bearable. We don’t think The Christmas Chronicles will make its way on the harbinger’s annual Christmas movie lists, but it was a fun departure from the other content Netflix has been pushing through.

Atul and Justin are playing the hell out of a first person shooter with very limited shooting. The game is Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide and is developed and published by Fatshark. Vermintide is set in the Warhammer universe and occurs just before “The End Times”.
Vermintide is an online coop game that can have up to 4 players playing together through various types of levels. The ultimate goal is take down as many rat-men as possible while staying alive to reach the end. Players can play as one of five characters: the Witch Hunter, the Bright Wizard, the Elf, the Dwarf, or the Soldier. All characters (more or less) are on the side of good and fight tooth and nail against the skaven horde. They are basically the most awesome exterminators in history.
It is an older game, released in 2015 for PC and 2016 for consoles, but has aged quite well. The graphics and sound are all top notch, and Vermintide 2 was released this year for PC and XBox One. The PS4 release date hasn’t been finalized at this time but hopefully it will be soon.
Our annual pub crawl came and went this year in Roncesvalles in Toronto, and as always it was a blast. We started at 3PM and managed to hit 7 pubs along the way until calling it quits just after midnight. The lineup for the night was as follows:
Atul’s art is in full display in the poster/t-shirt design for the occasion. Check it out! Also, a big shout out to Toronto Tees who made the official t-shirts of our outing.

Hey folks! We here at the Welcome To Your Doom Show hope you thoroughly enjoyed your halloween fun this year. Atul and Justin celebrated getting their respective houses all spookified for the small legion of trick-or-treaters that came by.
Justin’s home was a more low-tech type of approach than Atul’s. Some cobwebs, a couple pumpkins, gravestones, and a powerful red flood that bathed the house in crimson. There was still one thing missing though. The Shape. Michael Myers. The boogeyman. Justin grabbed his coveralls and mask, and stood idle on his porch daring trick-or-treaters to come ask for a treat.
He doesn’t do jump scares, but when a 6’1″ silent figure looms over you, it tends to get tense.
Atul’s home benefited from a great party that yielded several well carved pumpkins, some light mood lighting, and few projectors. The result, talking, animated pumpkins spinning yarns of halloween’s old, and ghosts and ghouls seemingly aperating within the house’s bay windows.
The integration of technology (speakers, projectors, chromecasts, and Plex) and an eye for the perfect halloween atmosphere created a living, breathing halloween experience for the kids that came to his door.
In the spirit of Halloween, Atul and Justin went to The Legends of Horror event at Casa Loma. A large scale classic halloween haunt that takes patrons through a maze of the Castle’s exterior and interior for a grand experience.
This event reminded both of the harbingers of a film Atul talked about in Episode 8.1. The film Haunters: The Art of the Scare debuted at Fantastic Fest in 2017. Directed by Jon Schnitzer, Haunters is an analysis of the immersive world of Halloween Haunts. Events that take you on a scary journey to provoke feelings of dread. The haunts outlined in the film offer varied experiences, and the film’s unbiased coverage is an excellent look into that world. Both from a creator’s perspective, as well as those who want to experience the haunts.
Haunters is available on Netflix now, and you can check out their website for more info, merch, and other goodies. Go to hauntersmovie.com to check it out.
For this episode we snagged some craft beers from People’s Pint in Toronto. They have a vast selection of different types of beers for all lovers of liquid bread (think about it…). Highly recommend checking their selection out. You can visit their website at peoplespint.com. We were drinking their lager Helles Island, a chai brewed stout called Chai Fighter, and their Diamond Park Mild.

Well it’s that time of the season and all hallows’ eve is almost upon us. You know what’s already upon us? Halloween (2018). Yeah we know, needing to add the (2018) suffix is a bummer, but you know what’s not a bummer? This movie.
The film masterfully balances multiple themes, characters, and tempos which make the Halloween series so memorable. There are certainly references to the original 1978 film, as well as influences from the Rob Zombie films and others.
Blumhouse’s latest production is another low-budget/high-quality product. It goes to show that top-notch films don’t need to cost 100’s of millions of dollars. With a little planning, passion, and creativity a film can go a long way.
The screenplay is written by Danny McBride, Jeff Fradley and David Gordon Green. Green also directed the film. McBride, Fradley, and Green also collaborated together on the TV series Vice Principals, a dark comedy about a high school and 2 vice principals.
The film also reunites Halloween (1978) alumni Jamie Lee Curtis, Nick Castle, and Tony Moran who played Laurie Strode, The Shape, and the adult Michael Myers (sans mask) respectively. John Carpenter returns to assist with the score, and as an executive producer as well.
That’s right! Screw you Christmas. Halloween baby! If you’re not sure what to watch during the halloween season, be sure to check out Episode 9 for our favorite films to watch in October.
