Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic has provided crucial updates regarding Division 2’s budget and roads, on West Bremer Radio, emphasising significant developments that are set to transform the area’s infrastructure. Speaking on the latest council activities, Jonic highlighted the busy period following the Spark Festival, which recently concluded after 11 nights of vibrant cultural events across the city.

Key among the updates were details on major road projects within Division 2. Two prominent projects, the Springfield Central road duplication and improvements in Redbank Plains, are already underway. The Springfield Central road project, which has been progressing in stages, recently saw the completion of the section next to Brighton Homes Arena. “It’s now nice and wide, making it easier for school runs,” Jonic noted, emphasising the positive impact on local traffic flow.

The major intersection of Springfield Parkway, opened last year, is also set to benefit from these developments. The final stage, involving roadwork on Springfield Parkway, is expected to enhance safety, especially for children crossing near Coles. “Once that’s done, it’s going to make it a lot safer in that Springfield area,” Jonic added.

Starting next weekend, night work will be conducted to expedite these projects. From July 28th, the park and ride multi-story car park will be closed each night from 7 PM to 5 AM for five nights. “This night work is efficient and means we can complete tasks faster, minimising daytime disruption,” she explained.

Jonic also discussed the recently delivered council budget and annual plan, which includes significant allocations for road infrastructure. The budget earmarks $28 million to finalize the Springfield Greenbank arterial upgrades. Additionally, there are plans for curb and channel rehabilitations in Carroll Park and pavement reconstructions in Bellwood Park.

The budget also includes facility upgrades, such as a new sports field on the other side of Eden Station Drive and enhancements to Bob Gibbs Park in Springfield. Furthermore, park infrastructure improvements are planned for Opossum Creek Parklands in Brookwater, featuring rebound walls and nature play areas.

In support of the community, the council has increased the pensioner concession to $258 against their rates for this year. Johnnie encouraged residents to visit the newly upgraded Richardson Park in Goodna, noting its interactive and family-friendly features.

These developments underline the council’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for Division 2 residents. With significant investments in road safety and community facilities, Division 2 is set for a period of substantial growth and improvement.

He plans to focus on his work with the Ipswich Show Society and maintain his farm while prioritizing his health. “I’ll certainly be serving our community in other ways, and looking after my health is the number one priority,” he emphasized.

Zanow also mentioned his hope for medical advancements, specifically referencing clinical trials in America. “There’s some hope with these clinical trials that are happening in America. Hopefully, I’ll be a part of the AHEAD study next year, which has shown positive results for my condition in animal trials. It’s bound to work on a politician,” he joked, maintaining his positive outlook.

Until the upcoming election in October, Zanow continues to fulfill his duties as MP. One significant effort he is championing is a petition to address the hazardous Haisley-Amberley road interchange on the Warrago Highway. “In 15 days, we had 12 accidents, including one fatality, at the Walloon Turnoff. We urgently need an overpass there, and the petition is open until August 16th,” he urged constituents.

The highlight will be the band Burger Joint, performing a unique kids’ concert called Junior Burger. Tickets are priced at just $5, and children over three will receive a bucket hat with their ticket.

In addition to festival fun, the Ipswich Sports Awards are returning for 2024. These awards celebrate the accomplishments of local athletes, coaches, officials, teams, and volunteers. “Ipswich has a rich sporting history, and the council aims to acknowledge the contributions that make it all happen,” Madsen said. Nominations are open until August 11, and the awards ceremony will take place on November 6.

Infrastructure improvements are also on the agenda, with the Ipswich City Council allocating funds for the replacement of the Hiddenvale Road bridge in Calvert.

The new heavy-duty bridge, jointly funded with the federal government, will replace the existing timber bridge while maintaining traffic flow during construction.

“While it’s sad to see the old craftsmanship go, the new bridge will withstand greater weight loads, essential for moving stock in the area,” Madsen explained. The project is expected to be completed by December 2024, with works occurring Monday to Friday and occasionally on Saturdays.

Councillor Madsen also emphasized the council’s commitment to keeping the community informed about ongoing works. “It’s great to see this project finally moving forward after being in the works for a while,” he noted.
