Do you love Squid Game? Netflix's popular Korean drama series centers around an ensemble cast of players who enter into a competition in hopes of escaping economic difficulties, but find that they're fighting for their very lives for the entertainment of the game's wealthy benefactors. While Squid Game itself was inspired by its writer/director Hwang Donghyuk's own experiences with financial disparity, it made me wonder: how often has this happened in real life?

This week we discuss the deadliest wildfire in recorded human history, the Peshtigo Fire, which took place in Wisconsin in October 1871. Often overlooked for the Great Chicago Fire, which took place on the same day, the calamity struck due to a combination of an uncommon drought, deforestation in the area, and strong winds blowing in that stoked small fires into larger blazes - and maybe extraterrestrial or paranormal forces as well?

Located in downtown Los Angeles, the Cecil Hotel has a dark and storied history. Many crimes and tragedies have occurred on the premises, and it's commonly reported to be haunted due to these occurrences. While many old hotels have seen their fair share across the decades, a truly inordinate amount of crises have happened at the Cecil, leading one to wonder why.

If you are a fan of horror movies or a follower of the paranormal, you more than likely know about Annabelle the Doll and/or the Warrens, famed paranormal investigators. For most of the past several decades, she has resided in the Warrens' Connecticut home, but she is now on tour - and, some believe, lost or missing in Louisiana or Chicago.
