Have you ever had a hug so good that you could feel it healing you from inside out? Then you may have been hugged by Dr. Paula Hedglon! 

In this episode of What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate podcast, we talk about people who have experienced a renewed expression of life through the identification and correction of vertebral subluxations, or chiropractic. I want to clarify this doesn’t mean every health problem is eliminated, but that their mind, body and soul are better able to function. 

Dr. Paula shares a story of a woman who came with her sisters, but waited in the car while they got adjusted. It wasn’t until Dr. Paula came out to talk to her that she discovered that this lady had very limited range of motion in her neck. Several months later, this patient told Dr. Paula that her kidney, which had been deformed since birth, was growing and thriving! (Listen in for another story about a man with Stage IV lung cancer.)

We also talk about what do Dr. Paula does or says when someone isn’t “cured.” 

Dr. Paula often shares a theme of loving people, so we dig into why it matters if a healthcare provider cares or not, and how we can get better at loving people. She shares three helpful ways to start, from noticing their eye color, starting each day with an intentional moment to be loving, and hugging folks for a little longer.

This is such a powerful episode of What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate as Dr. Dawn shares a story of a patient who was undergoing cancer treatment. Not only did she check his spine for vertebral subluxations that were interfering with his nervous system’s ability to adapt and heal, but she also spoke love and hope over him. She said things like, “Your body is always healing. It's always been healing. Your body never stopped healing.”

Did chiropractic heal this man from cancer? No, it allowed his body to function as it should, so his innate intelligence could do what it needed to do, as he also underwent cancer treatments.

As Dr. Dawn told him, “There are a lot of people that go through chemo and radiation, and they don't make it. They get sicker. But your body is amazing, and it heals and it changes and it grows and it thrives.”

Dr. Dawn and I talk about how this amazing innate intelligence is all around us in nature, talking about lizards, octupuses and birds. 

Not only does Dr. Dawn share these things in her office, but she has also written amazing children’s books that clearly share these principles. I love how she has shared and marketed this idea, even in a local brewery!

We tend to think posture means remembering to “sit up straight!” However, posture is much more interesting (and important!) from a neurological standpoint.

In this episode of What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate, I speak with Dr. Ryan Rieder. I was blown away when I met him at Focus OKC; he gave the most engaging talk I’ve ever heard at a chiropractic seminar and then as I’ve gotten to know him more, he’s not just a great chiro, clever marketer and businessman, he’s also a really genuine person as well. 

He shares the personal story of his children, both born 8 weeks premature and how chiropractic care helped them to thrive.

We also get into how chiropractors need to ask better questions in order to highlight each little miracle story. In marketing, Dr. Ryan said chiropractors often need to just go back to what has worked before.

Originally from South Africa, Dr. Ryan moved to the UK where he ran a string of successful chiropractic practices. He now resides in the USA and helps Chiropractors all over the world grow their practices with his tried and tested strategies. A 7-year-old was diagnosed with degenerative hip disease and told that she’d never lead a full active life. Her parents didn’t accept that…and took her to a chiropractor!

In this episode of What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate, I talk to the amazing Dr. Megan Afshar Martins. She practices at Upstate Specific Chiropractic in Greenville, SC, and specializes in upper cervical care and working with many families, pregnant women, and kids. She is also a regular speaker for Dynamic Essentials and the ICPA. 

She tells a great story of a woman who had been under chiropractic care since childhood and how it liberated her to live a full life, from powerlifting to hiking!

Dr. Megan also shares how she uses a special patient appreciation day to give back to her community and how she gives back to chiropractic by hosting students and interns.
