In this episode, Arnie and Fred begin a discussion of some of the things many people are confused about. We begin by noting when the Old Testament stopped being in effect and the New Testament was in force and what that means. We note the day of Pentecost and what we should remember of that day. We talk about Jesus as King, His reign, when it began, the extent of His reign and how we can know these things. This discussion will continue in our next episode. In this third and final episode on life as a Christian, Arnie and Fred continue the discussion noting that Christians must be active. We cannot ease our way into heaven without making any effort. We look at several passages that unequivocally teach this fact. We discuss a number of passages that teach us to be active in good works. That is the works that God has said are good.  There are several Bible passages that tell us that we will be judged by the Lord based on what we do. Jesus criticizes laziness and Paul notes that if an individual is able to work and refuses to do so, others have no responsibility to give him food to eat. We complete this episode by discussing a number of passages that specify promises of a reward for those Christians who are faithful. Take about 30 minutes to listen in on our discussion. Fred and Arnie begin this second episode about life as a Christian by noting that Jesus becomes our Lord and Master when we obey Him. Jesus discusses this with His apostles when He gave them a lesson on being servants. In Peter's first gospel sermon on Pentecost, he makes reference to this also. When we obey Him, we give ourselves over to the Lord and we seek to please Him. There are several references that say we are temples where He dwells and is worshipped. We discuss this. We talk about the righteous conduct that He requires of us. We complete this episode by looking at some passages that teach us that we must be active when we become Christians. In this episode, Arnie and Fred discuss what the Bible says about life as a Christian. We begin by noticing a number of people who claim to be Christians, but their life indicates that they don't really know what it means to be a Christian. This seems to be the case with a lot of people. So, we start by looking at what it means to be a Christian. The Bible teaches that once becoming a Christian, all of our sins have been cleansed. Our former life was one without hope and we look at several passages that tell us that. But when we are baptized, we look at passages that tell us what happens to us. These actions result in the Christian beginning a new life. We note passages that tell us what that means. We end this episode by beginning our discussion of Jesus as our Lord and Master. In this second episode about God's Inspired Word, Arnie and Fred continue to discuss the fact that the Bible is the Word of God, and its inspiration demands careful handling. We move to talking about the completeness of God's Word and the fact that this was foretold by the inspired apostles, prophets and teachers. The inspired writers affirmed and recorded the completeness of God's Word in the first century before their deaths. They gave warnings to anyone who might seek to tamper with those words. In this episode, Arnie and Fred begin a discussion of the inspiration of the Bible. We begin by looking at the word "prophecy" referred to by Peter and noting what that means. There is much disagreement today about whether God's revealed will is really available to us today.  Is it complete? Is it reliable? And is it understandable? We note how important inspiration of the Bible is to us. Peter used the word "inspiration" and we look at the meaning of the original Koine Greek word that he used. We talk about God being the Author of the Bible, the extent of His Authorship and how He accomplished it. We also note the Holy Spirit's work in this respect. The original manuscripts enter our discussion, and we look at some passages that reveal the actions of several writers in both the Old and New Testaments. In this fourth and final episode about gambling, Arnie and Fred begin by discussing the principle of faith. We note that the Bible discusses the doubts one may have about something, even if it is allowed, as being sinful, and how it applies to gambling. The principle of civil obedience requires us to obey civil authorities and that's the next point of discussion relating to our subject. We look at lotteries that a lot of states use to raise funds and talk about the greed that is involved on the part of those who play them. We note that the use of these lotteries' perverts the legitimate purpose of government, which both Peter and Paul discuss. We also talk about lotteries.  Next, we note our responsibility of providing for our families and how gambling may affect that responsibility. The Bible discusses the principle of fruit bearing. Jesus specifically talks about that, and we look at how that applies to gambling. Paul discusses the influence others may have upon us, the principle of companionship. Jesus teaches the need not to be anxious concerning the things we face in this life which relates to the principle of anxiety. We talk about this. In this episode, Arnie and Fred begin a discussion of what the Bible says about gambling. We note that the Bible doesn't specifically use the word gambling. Neither does it name all sins specifically. But the Bible clearly sets forth principles that we can use to determine whether or not an activity is right or wrong - righteous or sinful. Gambling is such an activity. We begin by looking at the principle of stewardship. We are to be good, faithful and wise stewards, Jesus says. God has said that everything in the world is His, including ourselves. We discuss these things. We also talk about what is referred to as the Golden Rule, the love we are to have for others and the fact that we are to do good to them. We note the application of this principle. We move on to the principle against stealing and how that applies to gambling. We look at what we call the principle of personal industry, the work ethic that is clearly taught in the Bible. The principle against exploiting others is clearly one to be considered when discussing gambling. We include that in this episode.
