On episode 455 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Alexandra Howson, PhD, CHCP, a well-known and highly successful medical writer, educator, and podcaster. In the course of their conversation, Keith and Alexandra discuss her transition from nurse clinician to academician and then to entrepreneur and freelancer, and how nursing can be a launching pad for career journeys far beyond the bedside, including writing CME and CE, her specific area of specialty

A former trauma operating room nurse, Alex was faculty at the universities of Aberdeen and Edinburgh in Scotland for a decade, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the sociology of the body, gender, and health. S

Alex left academia in 2004 and has subsequently built a thriving freelance medical writing business in the USA that specializes in creating content for continuing education in the health professions (also known as CME). She teaches and coaches new-to-the-field medical writers how to break into CME, find clients, and build a sustainable CME/CE writing niche.
