  • Unleashing Your Mojo with the Wisdom of the Dojo - Interview with Jennifer Cassetta
Whether the opponent is a financial hardship, a difficult boss, being in a manipulative relationship, or emerging from a pandemic, my next guest’s new book The Art of Badassery (unleash your mojo with the wisdom of the dojo) teaches readers how to flex their mental muscle, how to rise above fears, and how to reclaim their power. I received an advance copy of Jennifer Cassetta’s book and tore through it in record speed. A self-help book addict, I’ve read pretty much all of them, and in my opinion Jennifer’s is one of the best. By taking the skills she learned in the dojo to become a third-degree blackbelt and translating them into
Confidence boosters you can use in your life, Jennifer bring the perfect mix of class, sass and bad-ass to women everywhere. Meet Jennifer Cassetta.

  • Helping Iranian Women from Canada, Check Your Breasts, How to Make Friends & Comeback Snacks
Iran is experiencing feminist led protests after the death of a 22 year old Mahsa Amini at the hands of the so-called Morality Police. Women in Canada want to help but it’s hard to know what we can do. Mehry Hadi, a Iranian-Canadian who has been fighting the regime from Canada for 24 years, joins me to share steps we can all take to ensure women’s voices are heard and change happens in Iran.
It’s that time of year again, time to discuss the ta-tas, as Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off so Dr. Paula Gordon is here to share why all women should get to know their breasts, signs to be concerned about, and how to advocate for yourself.
Anne Brodie is straight off of TIFF and exhausted but she still brings the entertainment goods this week with True Story, a comprehensive study of Indigenous history in Canada on The History Channel, Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline in The Good House, and the long awaited release of Hocus Pocus 2 starring Bette Midler, Kathy Njamy and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Making friends as an adult is hard. Jessica Painter knows this first hand after moving to Canada and starting a new life here. The founder of In Her Circle, Jessica helps women find and keep new friendships and shares tips for those searching for a BFF.
Everyone loves a good comeback story, but you’ll really love the story of Emily O’Brien who set out on a mission to transform herself and make her time in jail as meaningful as possible. Using her entrepreneurial pre-sentence background and experience, Emily O’Brien birthed the idea for Comeback Snacks—a popcorn brand that creates unique flavours inspired by the ones Emily developed in prison.
Finally Willie Poll joins me to discuss her children’s book together we drum, our hearts beat as one which aims to brings awareness to the additional barriers Indigenous women and two spirit people face, as well as the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two spirit people in Canada.

  • Forget Aging Gracefully, Try Living Agelessly on for Size
Aging as a woman is complex. Typically as we enter our 40s, and into our 50s and 60s, our confidence and general contentment soars, but on the flip side we struggle with physical changes that shouldn’t detract from our contributions or worthiness to society but often do. Case in point, Lisa LaFlamme. At the peak of her career, trusted by Canadians for decades as an exemplary newscaster, she was dumped by Bell Media apparently because she had the audacity to let her hair go grey. Then there’s the lies we tell ourselves, that we’re too old to change, or we can’t do something because we’re over the hill. Finally, we can’t forget the pressure we put on ourselves and others to stay young, or the pressure we put on women to allow themselves to age naturally as if Botox was the enemy. The complexity of this issue prompted this discussion with Jennifer John and Denise Chand from The Sacred Space Coaching about aging.

  • Does Freedom 55 Still Exist, Some Good Clean Fun, and Motherthing
Meridian Credit Union is back baby for a four part series on finances during different stages of women’s life. We kick things off today with Kerri Anderson, Senior Practice Management Coach with Meridian Credit Union and it’s all about retirement, and we’re asking the question, is Freedom 55 still a thing?
Who’s up for some Good Clean Fun? Sarah Kate is a former wine-loving mom of two on a mission to help women rethink drinking and overcome the normalization of alcohol everywhere by inspiring them to find the fun in life, sans alcohol.
Anne Brodie’s regular Saturday Night at the Movies is a little bit longer this week simply because there is so much new in entertainment we had to! We chat about Eternal Spring, Canada's submission for the 2023 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category, A Jazzman’s Blues on Netflix, the much anticipated Blonde also on Netflix about Norma Jean Baker AKA Marilyn Monroe, a documentary on Apple TV about class act Sidney Poitier and finally a stunning series on TVO called Great Lakes Untamed.
Lindsay Sealey, author of Made for More is back for the second in a series about Gen Z women and girls and we chat about the not good enough epidemic and how we can help our young women fight back against it.
If you are drawn to horror when in comes to entertainment, either in documentaries, films, or books you’re not alone. Women are weirdly obsessed with horror. Author Ainslie Hogarth and I break that down plus we talk about her latest book, Motherthing, a darkly funny domestic horror novel about a woman who must take drastic measures to save her husband and herself from the vengeful ghost of her mother-in-law. Yes, it’s fiction.
Finally, Anne Brodie is back with a interview with the incredible Tyler Perry who wrote and directed TIFF hit and Netflix release, A Jazzman’s Blue which follows an investigation into an unsolved murder unveiling a story full of forbidden love, deceit and a secret.

  • Defunding the Police, Education Hurdles, Living Agelessly and Telling Tales
We kick things off today with Samanta Krishnapillai from On Canada Project for a conversation about policing in Canada and what exactly it means when we talk about defunding the police. Spoiler, it doesn’t mean chaos on the streets. Samanta joins me to share what it would look like to allocate the funds differently so that everyone feels safe and protected.
Now that school is back, I thought it would be a good time to connect with Dr. Prachi Srivastava for a check in. Specialising in education and global development, Prachi is a Visiting Professor at McGill University who looks at education systems around the globe and has thoughts on how we can do better.
It’s mostly about TIFF this week with Anne Brodie for Saturday Night at the Movies and this week we take a look at the new documentary about the iconic David Bowie, the comedy-drama I Love Movies about a high school cinephile who gets a job at a Blockbuster knockoff in Brampton in the 80s, and Ever Deadly which focuses largely on Tanya Taqag’s throat singing but in intercut with the harsh and otherworldly environs of Nunavut where she grew up.

In today’s age where we our senses are under assault constantly by screens everywhere we look, there is nothing quite so therapeutic as curling up with a good book that doesn’t keep interrupting you with notifications and attention stealers. Finally, K Victoria, R&B/Pop/ Soul sensation, has the music industry sitting up and paying attention and after today’s show you will be too. She joins me to share the inspiration behind her newly released single “Visions-When I Think Of You”.

The On Canada Project intentionally disrupts social conversations by bridging information gaps and using a compassionate tone that calls people into conversations, rather than calling people out. In this episode we’re tackling the topic of sex workers.
