Hello dears! I've been on a hiatus! A much-needed spontaneous recuperation session. I've been hiding out with friends and family before my big move down to Los Angeles. I've been rooting myself in my yoga practices, yard dances, reading, writing, and the frequent tearful friend call as I've been processing a dizzying amount of change. But enough on that.

Hellllo.... happy summer stars!! What the hell is up? Back in June, I sat down with Seattle-based duo Lobes and Haywire to hear the story of their friendship, collaboration and the stories behind their recent projects. Rapper Alex Olobia, who goes by the name of Lobes, and Hayden Wires, an electronic artist, came together through an event called Party for People, which I helped put on in 2018. From this meeting point of friendship and passion, Lobes mustered the courage and confidence to grow from a Soundcloud Rapper into a performing rapper and the two collaborated to create a full-length album called Samurai Black. Almost 4 years later and Lobes and Haywire continue to perform on local Rap and Hip Hop stages, alongside other friends and collaborators. Both speak to the process of "sending it down the slopes" for the sake of artistry and personal growth and that feeling of being "Brand New" in the process. It was SO friggin' fun to sit down and chat with Lobes and Haywire, who I've personally known for several years now. Thanks for being here, this is what the hell is up.

It's the beginning of June and it's still cloudy in Seattle. What does that mean? It means Seattleites are still longing for sunnier weather, where we might crawl out of our shells and reconnect with ourselves and one another. Hellllllo! What the hell is up, starlings? I'm back with ANOTHER episode! Today you'll hear from Mary Robins and Hexx Rodriguez of Biblioteka, Seattle-based garage, punk band who A) enthusiastically supports the efforts of your local library and 2) is here to F*CK SHIT UP, and by that they really mean, have a good friggin time. We discuss their recent single "Where Did We Go Wrong" which was put out as a tribute to Ukraine after a haunting experience right here in Seattle. On May 3, I headed into the streets with my chosen family to protest the Supreme Court's potential overturning of Roe vs. Wade. I know you've already heard about this by now, but I'm here to ask what the hell is up with the green wave? This movement to color a nation with green became a symbol across Latin America, and now its our turn to become a wave of green for abortion rights. I've been thinking about the idea of an authentic self and finding sweetness as we change and the world changes. I met a sheep named Jimmy the other day, so I'd like to dedicate this podcast to him. He was brave to shed old mangy wool even if his friends weren't ready to accept him for that.

DJs have a magical ability to read the room and  manipulate the energy of a crowd through music. 

In today's episode, I chatted with Afterspace, who is a multi-genre electronic artist, DJ and producer, who created the music for season two of What the Hell is Up. We discussed his story of becoming a DJ and artist of Dubstep--a genre I had not fully appreciated until this conversation (but am now obssessing over, especially if I'm listening while wielding a Light Saber). We explore ideas about finding creative flow and you'll hear a creative reflection inspired by a tarot card reading. At the end of the episode, catch the story behind Afterspace's latest collaboration with Seattle-based artists Pey Day and Marshall Hugh.
