Along the way we discuss the history of da kine bud in America, from Washington’s Sweet Brown Downtown to Roosevelt’s Rough and Red, the sweetest chiba in all of Hyde Park.  From there we take a walk down Racism Lane as we learn why the Federal government hates weed!  (Hint: It is because it hate’s minorities!)  We trace the evolution of drug laws from Anslinger to Nixon to Reagan.  (“Just Say No” made us say YES PLEASE!)  Finally, we learn how the tides turned toward legalization.  (Was it Wall Street?  Yes, yes it was!)

This week Host Dave Bledsoe admits nothing, denies everything, demands proof and makes counter accusations regarding this bar tab you expect him to pay!  On the show this week we wrap up Spooktacular 2020 with Part Two of the Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident with some hard truths about the Defenders of the Force.  (If  you can trust Dave, which you cannot.)

Along the way we examine each piece of evidence presented for what happened on that night, explaining in turn why it was swamp gas, viewed through Venus with a weather balloon passing behind the lighthouse that everyone was seeing the whole time.  (This is actually the explanation!) Then we turn to WHY this incident became such a big deal!  (Turns out, it was people covering their ass!)  Finally we explain why this story seemed to get more complex and less believable as the years went along.  (We blame Art Bell.)

Show Notes Episode 284: There’s A Light Over At the Rendlesham Place Part 1 of the Rendlesham Forest UFO Sighting

This week Host Dave Bledsoe opens up his military service record only to savor how many times he was almost booted out of the Air Force. (How did this guy get an Honorable Discharge?) On the show this week we head across to The Pond to examine our Special Relationship with the United Kingdom and how together we hide the evidence of the existence of UFO’s. The Spooktacular continues with the Rendlesham Forest Incident!

Along the way we learn about the desirability of base assignments during the Cold War. (Nukes: Bad. Beach: Good!) Then we dive right into a Boxing Day mystery just outside a critical Cold War defense installation, the boring job of an Air Force Security Police person and the various ways they kept themselves awake at night. (Warning, masturbation content.) We learn the story of lights in the forest, the investigation of said lights and why the hell a respected officer would lend credit to such unlikely bullshit. (Hint: Someone pissed off his Boss.) After we lay out the facts as established, we then turn to later...embellishments, including truth serum and secret messages from aliens. (Be sure to drink your Ovaltine). Then we wrap up the sightings and set the stage for Part Two.

This week Host Dave Bledsoe reveals HIS thoughts on what happened to the Yuba County Five only to reveal he hasn’t really given it any thought. (What, you expected answers?) On the show this week we examine other people’s theories of the disappearance from the likely to the wildly implausible. (Again, you expected answers?)

Along the way we dive into the history of the man many believe is the cause of the Boy’s vanishing into the night, Gary Mathias. We learn about his mental illness, criminal history and deep and abiding love of long walks and staggering amounts of lysergic acid diethylamide! From there we looked into the explanations of the families of the missing men and investigators and of course the random opinions of people on Reddit! (Reddit, where you go if you just want AN answer, not necessarily the right one.) Then we detour into the paranormal explanations with a needlessly long and utterly unproven theory that fits with the theme of the month, but has no basis in evidence. (Happy decorative gourd season motherfuckers!) Then we provide you with our theory, which best fits both the facts as known and the time and place the disappearance occurred. (It is based on exhaustive research, meaning we got really high and decided this is what happened!)

Show Notes Episode 282: Play Me Some Mountain Madness The Yuba County Five Part 1

(Spooktacular 2020!)

This week Host Dave Bledsoe returns to his old stomping grounds in Northern California only to find several outstanding bar tabs and at least one paternity suit. (This is why he can’t go home again.) On the show this week we kick off Spooktacular 2020 with part one of a two part story about the missing Yuba County Five!

Along the way we learn rather more about the weather in Yuba County California than we could ever possibly want to know! (Hot in Summer, wet in Winter would have sufficed!) Then we dive right into the story of five slightly developmentally disabled young men (well four developmentally disabled and possibly a violent lunatic anyway) as they vanished one night after a basketball game. We trace their steps from one unremarkable small town to another, (this pretty much describes most of North Central California) and then follow the trail of witnesses and lucky finds deep into the mountains of Sierra Nevada. We hear from remarkable bad asses and remote store clerks as investigators look for the men, finding first their car far off their path home and finally their bodies in the middle of nowhere deep in the forests of Northern California. Well, MOST of their bodies anyway! It’s a wild strange spooky tale and it is only HALF the story! Welcome to Spooktacular 2020!

Episode 280: “Get Me the HELL Out of Here Part One: Flight Options

This week Host Dave Bledsoe stares into the void hoping against hope to see the traditional green livery of the Betelgeuse Trading Scouts only to discover he is no Ford Prefect.  (Don’t worry, we didn’t get it either.)  On the show this week we examine our options for permanent relocation to another, more understandable planet so that we do not have to cope with all the horrible news we’ve experienced this week alone.  (We admit, we are really grasping at straws with this solution.)

Along the way we discover why Dave wouldn’t be a good fit for The Shire.  (Turns out Hobbits are easily offended by profanity!) and why Dave drinks as much as he does.  (He claims he is from another planet, but really he needs rehab.)  From there we dive right into our options for leaving Earth for a Better World which is presumably what this episode is about.  (We are not entirely sure).  We delve in the Drake Equation (with obligatory Seinfeld references) only to discover our odds could be better for finding a life.  Then we tackle Fermi’s Paradox (and it’s corollary about why we should never spend the extra money for the Champagne Room in the strip club!)  Before we finally throw up our hands and just assume aliens exist and they will give us a lift.  (No one said it HAS to make sense!)  This is part one of a two part show, next week we get on Zillow looking for a new planet because this one isn’t going to make it.
