Wheel of Mind: A Wheel of Time Character Reread Podcast

They get on the first ship out of Tar Valon, and Mat is No Bloody Hero!

Buckle up! Mat is out on the town and is not the only character with an addition. Stay tuned to find out if his ta'verenness cures Thom's alcoholism.

Join us as we cover Mat's epic quarterstaff battle and the acquisition of hi get-out-of-jail-free card!

We're back with Wheel of Mind, Season 2: Electric Boogaloo! The Empire Strikes Back! Or... just *Mat Cauthon*.

Consider this your Mat POV orientation. We cover some of the major hallmarks we'll see in future Mat chapters, such as 1) his unique thought process; 2) every conversation being horse trading; 3) and his ancient memories.

A few more nuggets in this episode include a discussion about the soul and reincarnation in WoT, Mat's potential ability to sense the One Power, and his villain origin story ingredients.

Stay tuned for Episode 2 next week where Mat gets his get-out-of-jail-free card!

Welcome to Wheel of Mind, the character point-of-view reread podcast dedicated to the Wheel of Time, hosted by father-daughter pseudonymous duo Giskell Semaris and Lajara Dayne. Strap in for some discussion of our favorite fantasy landscapes and magic systems! If you're new to the show, check out Season 1 where we read Moiraine's POV. If you've already followed along, stay tuned for Season 2 premiering in just a few weeks: we're reading Mat next!

*Minor spoilers throughout for many series, but we announce them as we go along.*

In the final episode of the season, we cap off our point-of-view discussion of Moiraine--the woman without whom none of the Last Battle would be possible. Granted, it's an ensemble cast, but over these months studying our favorite Blue Ajah member we've become pretty partial to part of that ensemble! Join us in closing out Season 1.

...And what is going on with that pipe at the end anyway? Hear our take!

Stay tuned for an upcoming bonus between-season episode, and in a couple of weeks, Season 2 starring Mat Cauthon!

We present our penultimate Moiraine episode, covering the chapter that broke all our hearts the first time around. Aftershow starts at 46:08. We talk about some character growth parallels in other series: Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn spoilers are between 50:13 and 53:12. Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy spoilers start at 56:00 and persist until the end of the episode.

For our first episode of 2020, we are winding down Moiraine's character arc already. She radically shifts her orientation to Rand in this book, and does so even more in the next. She gets many visions of the future and is desperate to teach Rand politics. In the aftershow, we talk about the physics of the Snakes and Foxes (*finn), RJ's romance writing, and headcanon in general.

Happy holidays everyone! Dad and I are celebrating Christmas today with my Warder and the rest of our family. This bonus episode is our gift to you.

Giskell and I ramble and make it our brand. Topics change frequently. Keep an ear out for bloopers. Some episodes already ran long and we had some interesting points that didn't quite make it.

I hope you enjoy getting to know more about us as people! We'd love to sit down and intentionally record another one of these soon between seasons.

We'll catch back up with you next week to cover Chapter 21 of the Shadow Rising and our favorite moments from that book!

We discuss Moiraine's visit to Adeleas and Vandene, her meeting with Rand after Falme, and our favorite sassy Moiraine moments from the Dragon Reborn (as it has no Moiraine POV chapters).
