When Discipline Becomes A Cage

Listen Later

I think discipline is one of the most valuable attributes and characteristics somebody could hold in their life. But for a long time, my discipline was driven by fear and rigidity rather than self-leadership and genuine regulation. And I did not know the difference until the cost of that distinction became impossible to ignore. Most people think discipline is a sign of strength. And sometimes it is. But there is another version of discipline that nobody is talking about, and it does not come from strength. It comes from a nervous system that never got the signal that the threat was over. In this episode I am going deep on the psychology of high achievement that is actually high survival. I am talking about why some people cannot slow down no matter how hard they try, how the brain becomes addicted to stress and starts treating stillness as a threat, and what it costs to build an entire identity around what you can produce and endure. I am also getting into the difference between discipline that gives you structure and discipline that has become a cage you cannot find the door to, and what it actually looks like to rebuild from the inside out. This episode is for the person who has always been the one who keeps going. The one who never stops. The one who looks like they have it together from every external angle and feels like they are outrunning something they cannot name on the inside. If you have ever wondered why achieving everything you set out to achieve still does not feel like enough, this one is for you.
